Devoleena Bhattacharjee Reveals 'Abdul' Or 'Ram', What Will Her Son's Religion Be, 'It Was Clear...'

Inter-religious marriages among celebrities have long been a subject of debate among fans. They often have to face questions about the same, which extends to their kids. A recent celebrity who has faced the same issues has been Devoleena Bhattacharjee. The actress who became famous for playing the role of 'Gopi Bahu' in Saath Nibhana Saathiya tied the knot with her husband, Shahnawaz, in December 2022. The couple welcomed their son a few months back, and the actress has now opened up about the debate on her son's religion.

Devoleena Bhattacharjee reveals if her son will follow Hinduism or Islam

Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who has been away from the spotlight for a long time, made a rare appearance on her Bigg Boss 13 contestant,  Paras Chhabra's talk show. During the conversation, Paras asked if her son would be 'Abdul' (Muslim) or Ram (Hindu) when he grows up. The question made her laugh, and the actress shared that her son would be a complete Indian. In her words: 

"Indian bann ne wala hai, total Indian, Bhartiya bann ne wala hai. I think we have a very beautiful concept, agar hum bolte hai na ki, ek lifestyle jeene ke liye aapko ek dharam chaiye, but ek bacche ko agar, dono dharam se achi Cheeze mil rahi hai, wo achha sikh raha hai toh wo ek acha insan banega, I isse acha toh kuch ho nahi sakta."

She further explained that her son will have the choice to make her decision. Devoleena mentioned that she feels that she shouldn't force her religion on her son, and neither must her husband. When her son grows up and becomes capable of understanding the beauty of both religions, then it will be his choice. She said:

“Main ghar pe pooja karti hoon woh bhi dekhne wala hai, Shaan namaz padte hai, masjid jaate hai, woh bhi dekhne wala hai."

Devoleena Bhattacharjee shares if she was forced to change her religion after marriage 

In the same conversation, Paras asked Devoleena about her religion after marriage. In her response, the actress shared that neither she nor Shahnawaz forced anything on each other. They didn't ask each other to follow their religion. Moreover, they had clarity about their religion before marriage, and she had decided which religion she would follow. Moroever, it was the same for her husband, and they never talked about it. She said: 

"I had kept a fast last year. I had kept a big fast among all the big fasts. I had kept it for Shahnawaz. Shahnawaz never told me to keep fast. He himself says that if you are not able to keep fast, then do not get into all this unnecessarily."

Devoleena Bhattacharjee's husband, Shahnawaz, is a fitness trainer and runs a cable and Internet business. Before they tied the knot, they met at the gym and dated for three years, away from media glares. She revealed in an interview with ETimes that when she suffered from a back injury, no one was with her except him, and he took good care of her. When they dated, Devoleena was attracted to him and was the first to admit her love and initiate marriage. The duo tied the knot in a court marriage on December 14, 2022, and embraced parenthood in December 2024.
