'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' Ending Explained, Who Survived The Deadly Battle Against 'Muzan'?

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, the first part of the trilogy in the series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, was released on September 12, 2025. The Japanese animated dark fantasy action film features three intense battles between the 'Demon Slayers' and the 'Twelve Kizuki' members, who work under the demon king, 'Muzan Kibutsuji'. 

For the unversed, the series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba focuses on a teenage boy, 'Tanjiro Kamado', who joins the 'Demon Slayer Corps' to avenge his family’s death. The sole survivor was his sister, 'Nezuko', who was turned into a demon by the demon king. Now that the animated film, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, has hit the big screens, let’s learn what happens at the end of the film.

What happens in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle?

The Japanese animated dark fantasy action film features three major battles. 'Tanjiro' and 'Giyu' engage in an intense fight with 'Upper Moon 3', 'Akaza', 'Zenitsu' fights against his former senior disciple turned 'Upper Moon 6', 'Kaigaku', while 'Shinobu' faces the deadly 'Upper Moon 2', 'Doma'. Recalling their tense past, 'Zenitsu' enters into a fight with a former senior disciple, 'Kaigaku'. Meanwhile, the surviving 'Ubuyashiki' children, 'Kiriya', 'Kuina', and 'Kanata', work tirelessly to get hold of the demon king, 'Muzan'. At the same time, 'Tamayo' continues with her dangerous mission to weaken 'Muzan' and turn him into a human again.

However, it is 'Tanjiro' and 'Giyu's' tireless battle with 'Akaza' which stole the spotlight. Using his new power, the Transparent World ability, which his father once told him about, makes him calm and hides his fighting spirit. He also becomes invisible to 'Akaza's' Compass Needle through his newly acquired power. The film also portrays a flash into 'Akaza's' troubled human life. When he was a child, he fought and stole to help his sick father, who killed himself out of shame. However, after training at a dojo, 'Akaza' regained hope.

He also started preparing to marry his master’s daughter, 'Koyuki'. But after a rival poisoned the dojo’s well, killing his to-be wife, 'Koyuki', 'Akaza' killed 67 people in a rage. This dangerous act was noticed by the demon king, who turned him into a demon. In the end, the other 'Hashiras' prepare for their own battles: 'Kanao' fights against 'Doma', the 'Stone and Mist Hashiras' come together, and the 'Love and Serpent Hashiras' form a group. As 'Muzan' hides within the ever-changing Infinity Castle, 'Tanjiro' and 'Giyu' are left deeply injured.

Who gets killed and who survives the major battles in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle?

In Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, 'Zenitsu' uses his Seventh form, 'Honoikazuchi no Kami', to knock down 'Kaigaku', his former disciple who betrayed the 'Demon Slayer Corps' to join the devil group, 'Twelve Kizuki'. Meanwhile, 'Tanjiro' and 'Giyu' get into a fierce battle against 'Upper Moon 3', 'Akaza', the demon responsible for 'Flame Hashira', 'Kyojuro Rengoku's' death. Using the newly acquired power, Transparent World ability, 'Tanjiro' suppresses his fighting spirit and counters 'Akaza's' Compass Needle. Though beheaded, the 'Upper Moon 3' continues fighting until memories of his human life resurface.

Overwhelmed with guilt, he killed himself. Elsewhere, 'Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho' fights 'Upper Moon 2', 'Doma', the demon who killed her sister, 'Kanae'. Despite her courage and deadly poison techniques, 'Shinobu's' physical weakness falls short of overpowering 'Doma's' overwhelming strength. In a shocking turn of events, 'Shinobu' gets absorbed by 'Doma', who has adapted his body to resist her toxic air. By the end of these major battles, 'Kaigaku', 'Akaza', and 'Shinobu' are dead, while 'Tanjiro', 'Giyu', and 'Zenitsu' survive, setting the stage for the surviving 'Demon Slayers' to continue their fight against the demon king, 'Muzan Kibutsuji'.

Where is the demon king, 'Muzan Kitbutsuji'?

From the beginning of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, the 'Hashira' primarily focused on locating the demon king, 'Muzan', because killing him would eradicate the entire 'Twelve Kizuki' demon group. 'Tamayo's' medicine is weakening 'Muzan' and even starting to turn him human, but the process remains incomplete. The major problem is that Infinity Castle’s constant change in layout, which makes it impossible to track him down. By the end of the movie, people get to know that 'Muzan' has locked himself inside a cocoon at the centre of the castle, but no one knows the exact location of his hideout.
