Deepika And Ranveer In Trouble Due To Sindhi-Punjabi Wedding, Violate Rituals And Hurt Sentiments

Newly-weds Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are back in India. On November 18, 2018, they landed at Mumbai Airport after their wedding in Italy. DeepVeer (as fans affectionately call them) had two weddings owing to their different traditions. The first one was a Konkani wedding on November 14 and the second was a Punjabi-Sindhi wedding on November 15. However, controversy has knocked the doors of Deepika and Ranveer. Reportedly, in the Punjabi-Sindhi wedding, DeepVeer took the vows following the Anand Karaj rituals which demand the bride and groom to come down to a Gurudwara and the rituals are carried on in front of the Holy Guru Granth Sahib. As per a Pinkvilla report, Sukhdev Singh Kang, President of Indian Sikh Community, Italy, has come out in the front and said that the Akal Takht hukumnama prohibits taking Guru Granth Sahib to a place other than a Gurdwara. Sukhdev Singh has also shared that he will be writing to Akal Takht Jathedar to take matters into consideration. He told the Tribune, “It was a major lapse on the part of the gurudwara management.”

The Tribune report suggests that according to the Akal Takht ‘hukumnama’ (edict) dated March 16, 1998, “Guru Granth Sahib must not be present where alcohol, meat or tobacco is served or consumed. All granthis and raagis, gurdwara committee members and organisers of Sikh-related programmes must not take part in this sacrilegious act. The Sikh Rehat Maryada (code of conduct) must be adhered to under all circumstances. Those who act in conflict with this ‘hukumnama’ will face religious punishment as decided by Akal Takht.”

Clearly, Deepika and Ranveer’s wedding violated the rules proclaimed by the Akal Takht. The pre-wedding functions started on November 12, 2018, when our Ram and Leela got officially engaged in a Phool Mundi ceremony. The following day, i.e. November 13, 2018, saw the sangeet and mehendi ceremonies. A reporter stationed outside the venue in Italy informed earlier, “The security has been very strict and hence no photos of the bride and the groom have come out on social media. The phone cameras were sealed with stickers. Deepika’s family and Ranveer’s family too shook a leg with their kids. While Deepika got done a designer Mehendi, Ranveer Too has got done a little design on the hand with #DeepVeer written!”

He further added, “The ambience at the event was electric. Ranveer Singh has enjoyed the most at the Mehendi ceremony. He danced his heart out while his lady love was busy getting the Mehendi done. Old songs were being played. First Shubha Mudgal performed, followed by Harshdeep Kaur. Romantic songs, ghazals and sufi songs were performed. Followed by a performance by Ranveer. He also danced on the beats of dhol.” (Don't Miss: Deepika Padukone Holding Her Mother-In-Law Anju Bhavnani's Hands Makes For A Perfect Family Portrait)

In fact, as per reports during the sangeet ceremony, when Shubha Mudgal was singing for the couple, Deepika got emotional and started crying. Ranveer stood up, hugged her and made her smile again. A media tabloid claimed, “Shubha Mudgal was performing a thumri when Deepika Padukone got emotional and was in tears. When she broke down, Ranveer, who could understand her emotional state, walked up to her and hugged her tight and consoled his lady love. He ensured she was smiling again with all his crazy love antics.”
