It looks like Deepika Padukone’s exit from the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD is a controversy that refuses to die and gains momentum each day. Deepika was a pivotal part of the film but was removed from its sequel due to her demands, which the makers claimed as ‘unprofessional’. However, a recent act by the makers once again brought the controversy back into the limelight.
As Kalki 2898 AD is now streaming on OTT platforms like Netflix and Prime, fans noticed that the actress’ name has been removed from the end credits. Deepika Padukone was one of the lead stars in the film, playing a pregnant woman named SUM-80. She was one of the lead stars along with Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas in the science-fiction and mythological fantasy.

Helmed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD blends the Mahabharata with dystopian sci-fi. The film ends with Deepika’s face with a message: ‘Kalki Cinematic Universe continues’. However, as soon as the end credits roll out, featuring the main and supporting cast, fans notice the actress’ name is missing. Many fan pages dedicated to the actress pointed out the maker's move.

As soon as the screenshot was shared on Reddit, many social media users pointed it out, calling it petty and disgraceful. One of the users wrote, “It’s one thing to have a falling out, but this is just downright unprofessional. She’s literally in the film and promoted it. The irony here is that they called Deepika unprofessional but then turn around and behave like this.”

Earlier, the makers of Kalki posted an official statement on their social media handles, revealing Deepika Padukone’s exit from the film. The makers revealed that it was a commitment issue on the actress's part that led them to decide to part ways.
Amid the debate over the reason for Deepika quitting the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer project, another angle —her demand for a 25% fee hike and a 7-hour shift — had surfaced. A source close to the production team of Kalki 2898 AD shared that those demands were what made the filmmakers part ways with her. A source told the Bollywood Hungama report:
“Deepika Padukone demanded a 25 percent increment on the acting fees she was paid for the first part of the film. That’s not all, she put her foot down on shooting for just 7 hours a day. Given that Kalki 2898 AD is a VFX heavy film, such short shoots was likely to shoot up the budget by a reasonable amount. The producers were willing to provide a luxury vanity to Deepika for rest, in return of longer shoot hours, but she refused.”
On the professional front, Deepika Padukone will be next seen in King, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
