The famous Grammy Award-winning artist, D'Angelo, passed away at the age of 51. His death left the entire industry in shock. The family confirmed his death on October 14, 2025. D'Angelo, who was born as Michael D'Angelo Archer, is survived by three children. His family shared an official statement on his demise and revealed how his passing has left a big void. Angie Stone was an American singer-songwriter, rapper and actress. She had a career that spanned over four decades. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, to Iona Williams, a hospital technician, and Bobby Williams, a lawyer's assistant and gospel singer, Angela Laverne Brown was drawn to music from a young age. She attended the W.A. Perry Middle School and later joined the C.A. Johnson High School. However, she knew that her calling was in music and soon joined a choir at First Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbia, where she also sang her first solo.

Angie Stone's musical journey started in 1979 when she was at The Sugarhill Gang concert with her friends, Gwendolyn Chisolm and Cheryl Cook. The group found the CEO of Sugar Hill Records backstage, leading to an impromptu audition that resulted in Sylvia Robinson signing them as their first female act. The audition led to the formation of the female hip-hop group, The Sequence, during which Angela adopted the name Angie B.

The group released their first single, Funk You Up the same year, which also became the first hip-hop track to be released without sampling. The song landed at number fifteen on the Hot Soul Singles. The hit gave the group the confidence to release their first album, Sugarhill presents The Sequence, in 1980, which received positive reviews from music critics. In 1981, the group began making music for Sugar Hill Records and garnered immense praise for their work. However, in 1985, they refused to renew their contract after a dispute with Sugar Hill's CEO, Sylvia.

Departure from The Sequence and later career

By 1986, Angie B. had once again changed her name to Angie Stone, left The Sequence and made an attempt to start a solo career. However, while she was trying to make a place for herself, the studio's engineer introduced her to David Bright and Willie Bruno Jr., who loved her songwriting abilities and asked her to write for them. Nonetheless, the writing gig soon turned into a R&B/hip-hop quartet, It's Us. Later, they renamed their group Vertical Hold and released their debut album, A Matter of Time, in 1993.

The album peaked at number thirty-three on the US Top R&B Albums chart, selling over 62,000 copies in the first week of its release. For decades, Angie Stone worked on several projects, including her own, and helped other musicians with theirs. However, while she faced hurdles everywhere she went, she never gave up on her love for music. She released her final single, All I'm Missing in November 2024. Nonetheless, in December 2024, Stone announced via live stream on Instagram that she was preparing to sue Universal Records for unpaid royalties.

Angie Stone started dating rapper, Lil' Rodney C! in 1980. While the details of how they met are not known, they dated for three years before tying the knot in 1983. The next year, Angie welcomed her first child, Diamond Stone. However, by the late 1980s, Lil' Rodney C! and Angie were divorced.

Angie Stone met D'Angelo while she was working for Midnight Songs LLC. The singer was brought in to help the newly signed singer, D'Angelo, with his debut album, Brown Sugar. Despite a decade-long age gap, the two could not help but fall for each other. They began dating soon after and welcomed a son together named Michael Archer Jr., known as Swayvo Twain. However, by 1999, their relationship came to an end, as Angie found out D'Angelo was cheating on her. While Angie didn't have a serious relationship after that, D'Angelo also never got married.

Angie Stone was killed in a car accident near Montgomery, Alabama, on March 1, 2025. The singer was only 63 years old. She and her band members were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van to Atlanta following a Mardi Gras concert in Mobile, Alabama, when it overturned on Interstate 65. The stationary vehicle was then hit by a Freightliner Cascadia semi-trailer truck while the passengers were trying to exit. While everyone in the car survived, Angie was the only fatality.
