Did Dan And Phil Just Confirm They've Been Dating For 'Almost 16 Years'? Said, 'Partly Our Fault..'

YouTubers, Dan and Phil have been together professionally most of their lives. However, fans have often wondered if the duo is dating as well. Well, while they never commented on it before, it seems like the couple was now ready to share the news with the world.

Dan and Phil confirm they are dating

Fans have been speculating for years whether Dan Howell and Phil Lester are dating. They first started making YouTube content together in 2009 and have been loved by their audience for ages. The duo officially confirmed their relationship status for their 2.9 million YouTube subscribers in a video titled Is Phan Real? Dan and Phil Reveal the Truth, released on October 13, 2025. 

In the shared video, the YouTube duo confirmed that they are indeed in a relationship and have been in one since 2009. They further teased their audience, stating, "Alright, bye. Oh, sorry, you wanted more, did you? You want the juice? The tea? The blood, the tears." and recalled how they started filming the day they met and joked about how they "would not recommend that." Dan further shared:

"We signed up to be professional entertainers to create content for you to enjoy. Along the way, we fell hard and fast. And here we are, almost 16 years later."

Dan and Phil reveal their relationship is not anywhere near perfect

Dan and Phil came out separately in June 2019, but it wasn't until 2025 that they addressed their relationship or even labelled it among themselves. Phil even joked that they are not 'technically' together as they never said the words. However, he admitted that they are partners in everything. The couple further shared some insight into their relationship and revealed that they are not anywhere near perfect. He further stated:

"Don't get into your head that we are the ideal of human partnerships. We have had ups and downs. Like anybody, if you’re a mess, we are a mess. We are weird. We are a bizarre example of a relationship. Like, we've been attached at the hip 24/7 for 15 years."

Dan and Phil reveal why they have kept their relationship a secret

Dan and Phil also addressed why they have not been open about their personal lives. The couple shared that a key aspect of sharing personal life details is how these affect what they do. He added that it was "because Dan and Phil, the comedy duo and Dan and Phil, the gay boyfriends, it hits different." And while they have now confirmed that they are together, they don't plan on changing their content into "couple vloggers in bed". 

Dan and Phil added that they won't be focusing on the romance, as their main goal is still to make their audience laugh. Dan also shared that they hope their viewers meet them "with the same energy." The duo further stated:

"We have been held back from doing this for so many years. Because of all the past trauma and terror of what could happen in the future. But if you'll have us, we'd love to just finally be ourselves and do what we love, which is really how this should have been this whole time."
