Actress, Dalljiet Kaur dominated the headlines quite often in 2024, given that her second marriage to Kenya-based businessman Nikhil Patel ended within just ten months. Before tying the knot with Nikhil, Dalljiet was married to Shalin Bhanot, with whom she shares a son, Jaydon. However, the couple had a tumultuous relationship and eventually parted ways when Dalljiet accused Shalin of domestic violence. Recently, the actress opened up about how the divorce impacted her.
Dalljiet Kaur recently sat down down for a candid chat with SCREEN's Dear Me, during which she opened up about her and Shalin's dating period. According to the actress, she and Shalini had done Kul Vadhu and Nach Baliye. She admitted that by the time they won the dance show, it was obvious to everyone around them that they were in love, and expectations of the two tying the knot started soaring. Dalljiet further confessed that the couple felt very strongly for one another, but they were hardly able to spend time together before getting married.
Dalljiet elaborated that she was doing two shows when she met Shalin. So, the duo barely had an hour to meet for a 'coffee or something.' However, these short dates were less like getting to know each other and more like spending time together. During the interview, Dalljiet wished out loud that she could have gotten to know Shalin better so they could have avoided how things turned out.
Dalljiet Kaur further opened up about the impact of her first marriage falling apart. The actress revealed that it took her 9 long years to get over the fear of getting into a relationship despite desperately missing a 'happy family life.' In Dalljiet's words:
"After the first marriage fell apart, I was scared to be in a relationship for 9 years, and I missed that happy family life for that long. I took my own sweet time. I was in denial for more than 2-3 years that my marriage broke. The divorce word would not go down well with me; I would just break down and keep crying. At that time, Jaydon was an infant; it was not easy at all. Back then, I would get so offended if anyone flirted with me because I was still married in my head. Then, I started looking out because I wanted Jaydon also to see a normal family. After this, I was on every dating website and kept looking."
Dalljiet Kaur further elaborated on Shalin Bhanot's involvement in Jaydon's life in those 9 years following their divorce. She revealed that the actor was 'around' albeit not actively taking care of his son or making decisions regarding him. Dalljiet stated that Shalin would meet Jaydon occasionally, so their son grew up seeing him and calling him dad. She further noted that she had always felt having his father around would be 'healthy for him.' Thus, she never denied Shalin the opportunity to meet his son. However, she also firmly stated that if anyone were to ask Shalin how old Jaydon is now, the actor would have no idea.

Dalljiet added that her son, Jaydon's longing for a father had also played into her decision to remarry. Describing how her son was affected by seeing his friends having their dads around, she said:
"He would see his friends having their dads around when he went for stayovers or even on Father's Day, so he wanted that. He was thrilled for the second marriage because he, of course, missed having a father around at all times. It was a nightmare seeing Jaydon go through what he did. I protected him for 9 years. I took a decision back then to protect him, and then this happened. It felt like I failed. Jaydon didn't deserve all of this; no child on this earth does."
