His death came just days after he scored his first NFL touchdown on a blocked punt against the Arizona Cardinals. The Dallas Cowboys team confirmed Marshawn's death in an official statement, calling him a 'beloved teammate'. His tragic demise left his family, friends, and fans heartbroken. The NFL star's death was mourned by his Cowboys teammates as well as their family members. Among the people devastated by Marshawn's loss was Dak Prescott's fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos.
The Cowboys were a tight-knit pack, with their families well-known to one another. The teammates often hung out together and visited each other's homes. Marshawn Kneeland and Dak Prescott shared a strong bond, and thus the former's untimely death deeply affected the latter and his fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos. Sarah was in disbelief at the tragic death of the Cowboys player and called the incident 'devastating'. She took to her Instagram to share her feelings, asking Marshawn's well-wishers to keep his family in their prayers during this tough time. Sharing the Cowboys' post regarding Marshawn's death, she wrote:
"Devastating. Please lift this family and community up with love and prayers. Rest in Peace, Marshawn."

NFL team, Dallas Cowboys, confirmed the death of their defensive end, Marshawn Kneeland, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with an emotional statement on social media. Tributes poured in from the team, coaches, teammates, and others across the NFL. They referred to Marshawn as a beloved part of their team and organization. They offered their prayers and condolences to the bereaved family, including Marshawn's girlfriend, Catalina. The statement can be read as:
"It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."

Marshawn Kneeland's sudden passing sent shockwaves across the NFL fraternity. Former Cowboys defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer described Marshawn as "a great person, eager to learn...wanted to be great." Other NFL stars and former Cowboys players also shared their condolences, including Micah Parsons, Emmitt Smith, and Dez Bryant. Tennessee Titans defensive tackle, Jeffery Simmons, used the opportunity to bring attention to suicide awareness, reminding people to check in on one another. Besides them, agent, Jonathan Perzley called Marshawn his "client and dearest friend," stating, "To lose someone with his talent, spirit and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words."

Texas police have indicated that Marshawn Kneeland died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on November 6, 2025. Following a traffic violation, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers initiated a pursuit, which was later joined by Frisco police. After crashing his vehicle, Marshawn fled on foot, and during the search, authorities were informed that he had expressed suicidal thoughts on his family group chat. Following that, the police conducted a welfare check and found Marshawn dead early the following morning.
