Rising indie singer, David Anthony Burke a.k.a D4vd, has remained in headlines ever since the body of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas was discovered in the trunk of a Tesla registered under his name in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the internet has been rife with speculations, alleged photos, and videos proving that the rapper had some kind of connection with the deceased teen. But now, new reports reveal that his family has also been targeted in the case, adding another disturbing angle to the ongoing investigation.
Just days after Celeste Rivas's body was identified, Texas police responded to an active shooter call at D4vd's family home in Hampstead. According to TMZ, Officers rushed to the scene on September 18, 2025, after reports claimed someone inside had been shot. However, when they arrived, they were met by the singer's parents, who assured them everyone was safe
According to bodycam footage obtained by the outlet, D4vd's mother calmly explained that only she, her husband, their son, and daughter were present at the property. Moreover, no one was harmed in the case. Police checked the house but found nothing unusual. Authorities later confirmed it was a "swatting" incident, a malicious hoax call meant to provoke an armed police response. It left his family shaken and highlighted how someone might have tried to harm in regard to Celeste Rivas' death.
Despite intense public scrutiny, D4vd has not been named a suspect in Celeste's death. Legal experts explain that ownership of the vehicle where her body was found is not enough to warrant an arrest. On Good Morning America, ABC News legal contributor Brian Buckmire explained that investigators don't have adequate proof or leads to confront or question D4vd. Without a confirmation, they can't arrest him.
Celeste Rivas was reported missing in April 2024, after more than a year on September 8, 2025. Los Angeles residents alerted police after noticing a bad odor from an abandoned Tesla. The authorities found human remains in the car, which was registered to D4vd. After forensic testing and a distinctive tattoo on her leg, she was identified as 14-year-old Celeste Rivas. Meanwhile, D4vd's representatives say he is "fully cooperating" with investigators. His manager, Josh Marshall, also dismissed online speculation and said in a TikTok video:
"I had zero knowledge of anything. I live full-time at home with my wife and kids. My job doesn't require much interaction with David, as many others handle day-to-day matters."
