Indian cricketer, Rohit Sharma's top-notch batting skills undoubtedly leave his fans screaming at the top of their lungs whenever he graces the field. The same happened on March 2, 2025, when he started his innings during the India vs New Zealand match of the ICC Champions Trophy. Well, as it's game, the day was not favourable for the cricketer and he could score 15 out of 17 balls before he had to move back to the pavilion. Well, it didn't stop India from winning the match and moving toward the semi-finals. Amid this, a huge controversy erupted as Congress leader, Dr Shama Mohamed ended up fat-shaming Rohit Sharma.
Taking to her X (Previously Twitter), Congress spokesperson, Dr Shama Mohamed called Rohit Sharma fat, which brought her a whole lot of backlash. She instantly deleted the post, but later, in a follow-up post, she kept defending her comment on Rohit Sharma. In the now-deleted tweet, Dr Shama Mohamed said that Rohit is a 'fat for sportsman' and that he 'needs to lose weight'. She continued by saying that Rohit is the 'most unimpressive Captain India has ever had'. Such a comment got tagged as 'derogatory' by the netizens, and she got slammed, after which she instantly removed the post.
After Dr Shama Mohamed's tweet on Rohit Sharma went viral and ended up sparking a controversy, she defended her comment in a follow-up post. Reportedly, she questioned his decision-making and added how he moved KL Rahul to no 3 at the MCG Test, for which Shubman Gill had to be taken down from the team. She reportedly questioned:
"Didn’t he move KL Rahul to bat at number 3 at the MCG Test & put himself at number 1 which backfired totally! Wasn’t that a selfish move? Because of that, Shubam Gill was out of the XI."
She further remarked how India lost the last World Cup, and went on to add that there's nothing 'world-class' about him that he was compared to the legendary former cricketers. She called him a 'mediocre player and captain' and stated:
"What is so world class about him when compared to his predecessors like Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni, Kohli, Kapil Dev, Shastri and the rest! He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the Captain of India."
As soon as the tweet went viral, netizens burst out of anger and slammed her. While some added that Shama needed publicity and thus she made the comment, others reminded her that Rohit is the pride of our nation, and thus, he should be respected. One user penned. "Hahaha Abe kya Bol ri hai ye lag raha hai bhai ki batting Dekhi ni." Another user wrote, "He can hit 6 more then who has fit." A third user wrote, "He is our captain so first Respect it !! He is our nation's pride."

To this, Devajit said that each of the players is performing with their highest potential and the results are equally visible, and thus, people should stop making 'derogatory' remarks for personal publicity.
