IndiGo is facing the biggest crisis in its 20 years of smooth operations. It's been four days of chaos, frustration, and anger as the airlines battled one of the worst operational meltdowns. So far, more than 1,000 flights have been canceled, leaving passengers stranded at major hubs with fares surging.
The airlines scrapping departures at the last minute have left fliers with no choice but to wait, rebook, or hunt for another option. Amidst the frustration of travellers who have no option, they are looking for answers and wondering why flights are being strategically affected, with more domestic flights being canceled and no effect on international travel. While it is a topic of concern, let us know more about IndiGo's co-founder, Rahul Bhatia's wife, who left the board of directors in 2022.

IndiGo's co-founder, Rahul Bhatia, is married to Rohini Bhatia. However, details of their personal life are not widely known. The couple likes to keep their personal life private and maintains a low profile. They have two children, a son, Arunanshu Bhatia, and a daughter, Avantika Bhatia. Just like their parents, the children also stay away from the media.
Rohini Bhatia is known for her philanthropic work, and she is the chairperson of InterGlobe Foundation's InterGlobe Group. She is also the chairperson of the CSR committee of the company. Talking about Rohini Bhatia's education qualification, she has a diploma in textile designing and serves as a director on the boards of several InterGlobe Group Companies.
Rohini Bhatia joined her husband, Rahul Bhatia's company, IndiGo, as one of the board of directors in 2019. However, in 2022 the company announced her quitting in an exchange filing report. They announced that Rohini Bhatia, a non-executive and non-independent director, has tendered her resignation from the company's board. The reason cited was that Rohini Bhatia had other engagements. A part of the statement can be read as:
"We hereby inform you that Rohini Bhatia, a Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director has tendered her resignation from the Board of Directors of the Company due to other engagements, with effect from July 11, 2022."
Amidst IndiGo's flight cancellation crisis, the CEO shared a statement apologising to people who are facing the heat of the situation. However, the co-founder, Rahul Bhatia, chooses silence over giving assurance to fliers. The IndiGo CEO, Pieter Elbers, issued an apology after more than a thousand flights were cancelled in a single day. The big meetings, arrangements, and weekend trips were cancelled.

Travellers were left shocked as the biggest airline in the country had canceled more than half its daily number of flights. The CEO further admitted that the crisis will continue till December 6, 2025. However, they hope the number of flight cancellations will decrease following it. The IndiGo CEO said:
"Full normalisation is expected between December 10 and 15, though IndiGo cautions that recovery will take time due to the scale of operations."
It is worth mentioning that IndiGo operates around 2,300 domestic and international flights daily. Pieter Elbers apologised for the inconvenience caused by cancellations and delays. As per him, the crisis stems from a new rule that gives pilots a weekly rest of 12 hours to 48 hours and only two nighttime landings per week, down from six. He stated that IndiGo suffered the cancellation crisis due to misjudgment and planning issues.
As per Elbers, there are three lines of action that the airline will follow to quickly address the mass cancellation crisis. He stated that customer communication and addressing the needs are done through messages sent on their social media. A more detailed communication with information on refunds, cancellations, and other customer support measures will be sent in a crystal clear way.
As IndiGo faces the biggest flight cancellation crisis, all eyes are on the co-founder, Rahul Bhatia, and his wife, Rohini Bhatia.
