Chum Darang became the audience's favourite during her appearance on Bigg Boss 18. She has also been a part of Bollywood with films like Badhaai Do and Gangubai Kahthiawadi. Being a part of the Salman Khan-hosted show brought Chum immense stardom; she recently when appeared on Bharti Singh's podcast, where she spoke about her struggles as an actor, her ethnicity, and also about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Chum Darang, during the conversation with Bharti Singh, revealed how she had even decided to quit the film industry at one point. However, life gave her another opportunity. She recalled how she had decided to return back to Arunachal Pradesh when she got the call for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi.
During the conversation, Chum revealed how she had limited roles and how they were very difficult. She added that she was struggling to survive in Mumbai as it was very expensive. Chum shared that she entered the industry in 2018 and, by 2019, had decided to leave because nothing was happening for her. She stated:
"I had very limited roles, and it was very difficult, which is why I thought of leaving the industry multiple times. The struggle is real in Mumbai; it’s very expensive, and when you don’t have work, how do you pay the bills? Now it’s going good. I entered the industry in 2018 and left in 2019 because nothing was happening. I was returning home, and then Gangubai happened, then lockdown happened, then when I came to get my stuff back, I got a role in Badhaai Do."
She further admitted that she enjoys the stardom after being in Bigg Boss 18. However, she believes in remaining humble and recalled how she bagged the role in Gangubai Kathiawadi and her experience working with the stellar filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She revealed that she had taken her grandmother for a knee treatment, and the latter shot her audition for the same. But when she got a call from the team, she thought it was fake. She stated:
"I had taken my grandmother to Delhi for a knee treatment; we were staying with my brother, who was studying then. No one was home, and my grandmother is 80 plus, she shot my audition video for Gangubai. They liked the audition and I got a call from Bhansali’s office, I thought it was fake. I told my best friend about it because sometimes calls like these are fake. She told me to ignore it. Then it turned out that the call was not fake. What an experience it was, I was very scared. I had no line in the film, I was amongst the 10 girls who lived in the brothel with Alia Bhatt’s character."
In the same conversation, Chum revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali was a perfectionist in his work. She revealed that she felt constantly scared that he would pull her up for something. Chum added that Sanjay is extremely sincere regarding his work and added:

"Sir’s work is so perfect that you are constantly scared if he will pull you up for something. While costume designers brought the outfits, he was the one even deciding their colours. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s work is so perfect that it also takes much time to complete. He works very sincerely, I remember once the crew forgot something in the backdrop during a scene and sir got very angry."
