Bigg Boss 18 marked its grand premiere on October 6, 2024, on ColorsTV and JioCinema. This year's line-up for the show is quite interesting as it features a series of popular faces and internet personalities. From Shilpa Shirodkar, Karan Veer Mehra, and Vivian Dsena to Rajat Dalal, Arfeen Khan, and Hema Sharma, there are a series of exciting contestants inside the Big Boss 18 house. Amidst all these celebrities, there's one contestant, who represents the entire Himalayan community.
Yes! We are talking about the oh-so-gorgeous, Chum Darang, who is from the 'Land of Dawn Lit Mountains', Arunachal Pradesh. It created a stir as soon as the makers confirmed that Chum Darang would be a contestant on Bigg Boss 18 through a confirmation post on ColoursTV's official Instagram handle. While some people knew the stunning diva, the ones who didn't know her fell in love with her at first glance.
Netizens started praising Chum Darang's beauty, style quotient, and fashion game by dropping lovely comments on her Instagram posts. The actress registered a sudden surge in her follower count on Instagram. As of now, Chum Darang has a strong fanbase of 106K followers on her Instagram handle and is extremely popular among Gen-Z crowd for her breathtaking style. Time and again, we have seen Chum Darang dropping jaw-dropping pictures of herself that never miss a chance to win the hearts of her followers.
Before we move on to Chum Darang's personal life, let's discuss her argument with co-contestant, Shehzada Dhami, which has become the first major highlight of Bigg Boss season 18. For the uninitiated, Chum and Shehzada were sitting together with other housemates, and the latter found the spiciness of a particular food quite high. He said, "Mirchi lag rahi hain," to which Chum Darang immediately asked him whether he was talking about the chutney.

In response to this, Shehzada Dhami said, "Tumhare udhar ki hain na?" The remark didn't go well with Chum Darang, who got irked by Shehzada's words and responded, "Tumhare udhar ka matlab? I am Indian, and I am offended." The controversy erupted on social media, and most of the people took Chum's side and found Shehzada's remark a bit racist.
Chum Darang was born on October 16, 1991, to her parents, Tajeep Darang and Yamik Dulom Darang, in Arunachal Pradesh's serene town, Pasighat. According to a report in News 24, Chum has three siblings, two younger brothers, Tabit and Ninong, and an elder sister named Mitu. The stunning diva always takes every chance to promote her culture via her massive reach on Instagram. From dropping pictures in her traditional attires to talking about the problems of Himalayan regions, Chum Darang is a social activist and has been recognised by the Arunachal Pradesh government.
Cham Darang is a professional model, who has participated in a series of beauty pageants. At the mere age of 16, she kick-started her journey after participating in a beauty pageant. However, she received a major boost when she won the Miss AAPSU 2010.
After this, Chum Darang participated in Miss Earth India 2016 and represented India in Miss Asia World 2017, where she won the Miss Internet sub-title. In 2017, Chum won Miss Tiara India International. Not only this, she also won two major beauty pageants, Miss Sports Gear and Miss Best National Costume.
After participating in numerous beauty pageants and winning some, Chum Darang made her acting debut with the critically acclaimed web series, Paatal Lok. After this, she was seen in Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar's film, Badhaai Do. Courtesy of her impressive acting in these two projects, she was cast by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the blockbuster film, Gangubai Kathiawadi.
In a conversation with the Indian Express, Chum Darang opened up about her experience of working with Alia Bhatt. Chum lauded Alia for her work ethic and admitted that the actress inspired her with her acting skills. She also revealed that although she didn't interact much with Alia due to work pressure, she was in awe of her down-to-earth nature.
Apart from being an actress, Chum Darang is also an entrepreneur, as she owns a cafe named Cafe Chu, which is located in her hometown, Pasighat. As per reports, she opened the cafe three years ago and it has now become a major landmark of Pasighat town.
