Not much is known about Judi, as she has always preferred a life away from media glare. However, according to IMDb and close family accounts, Judi and Chuck shared a love that kept the latter grounded. The late musician often referred to Judi as his ‘anchor’ amidst the chaos of fame, constant tours around the world, and prolonged recording sessions. Those close to the Mangione family describe her as a warm and loving woman who has always been protective of her family, especially their two daughters, Nancy Lee Piraino and Diana Mangione.

Chuck Mangione had mentioned on several occasions how his outlook on life changed after becoming a father. Though both his daughters, Nancy and Diana, largely steered clear of the limelight, the jazz icon revealed in interviews that he desired to pass on his creativity to them. The artist in him wanted his children, too, to experience music as a way of life rather than an art form.

While Chuck has largely maintained the privacy of his family, his grieving niece, Ardis Lindley, remembered the late musician’s devotion to them after his passing. Ardis recalled how the children of the family never had babysitters, as they all hung out with Chuck as he played his music, wanting everyone to feel the music. Lindley said:

“He used to take all the kids on the road. My dad and my uncle Chuck would pack up the 6th-grade kids and go on the road. We never had babysitters. We would sit on the stage. He wanted us to feel that music.”
