Breastfeeding - a taboo topic for many in the television and Bollywood industry, but one newbie mommy who is breaking barriers is Shitty Ideas Trending co-founder, Chhavi Mittal. We have often heard and read about the newbie mothers sharing their struggles of coping up with the newborn and the balancing act between work and parenthood. But seldom has anyone addressed the importance of breastfeeding and the diet that a mother should follow. 14 years ago, on April 29, 2005, Shitty Ideas Trending co-owners, Chhavi Mittal and Mohit Hussein have been living their ‘happily ever after’ and are making us believe in this institution of marriage. With a lot of love and respect for each other, Chhavi and Mohit are living their journey together with two kids, one is their six-year-old daughter, Areeza Hussein and the almost two-month-old, Arham Hussein. Be it those nine months, her delivery phase or the post-pregnancy experiences with the baby, Chhavi had penned down her journey to inspire and guide other mommies-to-be or newbie mommies.
On July 5, 2019, in her Instagram post, Chhavi Mittal opened up about her diet during the breastfeeding phase postpartum. Elaborating on the same, Chhavi wrote, “A lot of you have asked me about my diet during the BFing phase post-partum. So, this post goes out to all those mothers who feel confused about whether to eat or to lose weight! Well, I'm no expert, but in my experience and from what I've read, BFing needs nutritional food, and so does good health. So the two are not at opposite ends of the spectrum. What I do is avoid processed sugar and restrict natural sugars to a bare minimum. But I do eat flaxseeds, chia seeds, nuts, fruits & green veggies. I also consume coconut oil since it's a healthy fat, and cheese too. I completely shun wheat (I feel it bloats me up). Instead, I eat rice and ragi. I am a non-vegetarian, so I eat eggs, mutton, chicken and fish.”
Chhavi Mittal continued, “I avoid eating heavy things after 7 pm, but fill myself up with the protein and fibre rich foods like chicken and veggies, since I need to sustain myself through all the night feeds till the next morning. And I always start my day with a banana & date smoothie! The only vice I still have is a cold coffee, in which I add only 2 sugars. But then, that's my comfort food and it takes all my stress and tiredness away! Btw, I don't eat any til/gond laddoos etc, or jeera pani etc, or tank myself up on milk. I did this for the first one month and then gradually discontinued & Arham & I have a perfectly healthy BFing relationship. However, please try this at your own risk & find your balance! PS. I avoid all gassy food & oh! Lots of water! #happymotherhood #diet #food #health #fitness #healthydiet #pregnancy #postpartumdiet #postpartum #chhavimittal #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmom”. From post-pregnancy weight issues, the importance of breastfeeding or postpartum depression, Chhavi Mittal has been trying to break the myths. Writing a powerful note for all new daddies, advising them on how to deal and behave with mothers suffering from postpartum depression, Chhavi had written, "Dear husbands/new fathers, Congratulations on being a father! You must be going through sleepless nights, diaper changes, crying interpretations & you must be all over the place trying to understand what's best & what's not for your LO. But please also take a minute to understand your better half's needs. Some of you already must be! For the others, did you know postpartum depression is more common than you think? Mothers suffer from it and don't even know it sometimes. But you, as a partner, can do more to help her than you can imagine. In fact, you can even save her from it completely if you intervene at the right time. When suffering from PPD, a mother could feel like crying all the time, unhappy, guilty for not being joyful, complaining, frustrated, dejected, feel like a failure, & feel as though this is the end of life as she knows it.”
Chhavi Mittal had concluded her post with, “What you SHOULDN'T do or say? "You're not the only one who's become a mother" "Try to be happy" "The LO needs you" "I'm doing everything I can" "You're being selfish" "Don't cry, it'll affect the milk" What you CAN say though? "I love you" "You're doing very well" "Tell me how I can help" "We're a team" And remember to CALL her from work just to check on her! Trust me, a few calming words can go such a long way! And if you see her crying, don't try to solve her problem, just hug her tight and agree with whatever she says.. tell her again that you love her.. tell her she's beautiful.. tell her you're lucky to have her... And dear dads, although you're overworked & overwhelmed too, trust me, this will pass sooner than you know... And you'll have a settled baby, if you have a settled mother. Love & peace from me to you! #mythoughts #postpartumdepression." (Also Read: Sania Mirza Posts Proud Note For Shoaib Malik On His Retirement, On Behalf Of Son Izhaan Mirza Malik)
