Charitable Donations On Your Wedding Day

Are you a giving person who volunteers at NGOs because you want to help everyone you can? Are you overwhelmed at the amount of money being spent on your wedding extravaganza when there are so many unfortunate people in the world who can’t afford a single meal? Then this article is for you. You can get married in the tradition that is the big fat Indian wedding and work towards greater good on the same day.

Not-For-Profit Organizations

If you are already volunteering, then you can benefit the same organization or contact other organizations whose work you believe in. Ask if they would like to use the leftover food or you can even package and give it to homeless people. Donate the flowers at orphanages, elders’ homes or hospitals. The flowers will help cheer up the kids, elders or patients.

Donate whatever you can to charity organizations. Contact them before and ask them what all they can use after the wedding is over.

No Gifts Please, Only Donations

Another way to give back to the less fortunate is to print in your wedding invitations that you don’t want gifts and would rather prefer cash or chequesto charities. Depending on how many guests you have invited, you will get a truckload of gifts, many of which you will not like or use. Instead people can give the money they would spend on a gift to a charity.

One option would be to mention a few organizations in the invitations itself to which the guests can make out the chequesto.  If you think this might be too demanding, you can ask close family and friends to spread the word as to which charities you prefer. Another option would be to ask if the charity organizations would like to set up a booth at the wedding to accept the donations. If you still end up getting gifts, donate the gifts to these charities.

YourWedding, Your Way

Your wedding should reflect your personality and your values. If you need the gifts and cash that people give as wedding presents to start your new family life, by all means keep them. If you do not need or like some gifts, donate them. If you want to use the opportunity of your wedding to make some donations, do so by asking guests for charitable contributions. Whichever way you conduct it, make it your own. It is your wedding and it is once-in-a-lifetime, so do it your way.
