'Chak De India': Vidya Malvade Reveals Insecurity Among 16 Girls For Screen Time, Credits SRK's Help

'Chak De India': Vidya Malvade Reveals Insecurity Among 16 Girls For Screen Time, Credits SRK's Help

Shah Rukh Khan has made a name for himself not only in Indian showbiz but also on the global stage despite not working in any international movies. SRK was first seen on the screen in the 1988 Doordarshan series, Fauji, and since then, the actor has not looked back. He has starred in one blockbuster movie after the other and has some of the best Bollywood films to his name. Among the plethora of his filmography, the 2007 sports drama, Chak De! India, is a notable one.

Vidya Malvade reveals that the 16 girls of Chak De! India used to be insecure about each other’s screen time 

Shah Rukh Khan worked with sixteen actresses in the 2007 movie, Chak De! India. While the film was made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, it earned Rs 108 crore worldwide. Recently, Vidya Malvade, who played the role of ‘Vidya Sharma’ in the film, opened up about how the 16 girls were insecure about their screen time. For those who don't know, Vidya started her career in the entertainment industry as a model and then ventured into acting. Apart from Chak De! India, she has been a part of projects like Mismatched, 1920: Evil Returns, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara!, Inside Edge 2, and many more.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, the actress shared anecdotes from the shooting of Chak De! India and recalled how SRK helped them. During the interview, Vidya mentioned that the sixteen girls used to be very insecure about the duration for which they would be shown on the screen. Recalling the shooting days, the actress said it was natural for them to feel that way as they used to have different period cycles and their moods used to differ. Vidya mentioned:

“Uss time par jab shoot ho raha tha, tab hota hai na ki isko thoda zyada wo (screen time) mil raha, usko thoda zyada weightage mil raha hai. Obviously hona hai na. You put 16 girls together and unke apne saare period cycles this that, it’s crazy and chaotic.”

Vidya Malvade reveals that at present all of them share a sisterly bond

Moreover, Vidya shared that all of them have a sisterly bond now and they even have a WhatsApp group named “Bad, Bad Girls”, after a song in their film. She said that even after 17 years of the release of Chak De! India, they are still very close to each other. Vidya also mentioned that last year, two of them got married, and they had a blast at their wedding ceremonies.

Vidya Malvade mentions that SRK helped them hone their acting skills

Further in the interaction, the actress recalled how Shah Rukh Khan, who played the role of ‘Kabir Khan’, had helped them to hone their acting skills. Vidya shared that some of the girls had never worked in front of the camera and were completely new to the industry, and SRK played a pivotal role in familiarising them with the camera. Heaping praises on the Baadshah of Bollywood, Vidya mentioned:

“He was so nice and accommodating. The team was like his team. He was such an influence on all of us at that time. Many of the girls in the team were new. They hardly knew about the light and angle during their shots. They were just standing there and saying their lines. But he (SRK) was instrumental in saying, 'If you stand like this, you will get better light and your face will be visible'. He helped with making the shots better."
