Vikrant Kumar Jaitly was playing some kind of a prank. She recalled the moment and mentioned that at the time, she was in a bad marriage, but tried her level best to adjust for her children. She was quoted as saying:

"I got to know around September 29. The call came at around nine at night. I was living in Austria then. At first, I thought my brother was playing a prank. For an hour, I dismissed it as one of his stupid jokes… I was in a very ab**ive and bad marriage. But when you have children, you do everything to make that work. When you don't have parents, when you no longer have your assets, you do everything to keep your marriage going, specifically for your children."

"It’s been 1 year, 2 months, 17 days, 443 days in total, 10,632 hours, 637,920 minutes…since my brother, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly,(Retd) was taken. I am waiting to hear his voice, I am waiting to see his face, I dread what they have done to him. I dread it because only I know who he was when he was whole, & I dread it because I know what he managed to communicate in that one final call…A call made to the only number he could still remember. A call carrying more pain than words. A call carrying more truth than the world is ready to face."
