Border 2 released on OTT platforms on March 20, 2026. The film is a war movie inspired by the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. For the unversed, it is sequel of superhit film, Border, which was released in 1997. The 2026 film shows how the war was fought with the help of Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. But there was one name that stood and it was Flying officer, Nirmal Jit Singh.
For the unversed, in the film, Sunny Deol reprised his role as Lieutenant Colonel Fateh Singh Kaler. The movie features Varun Dhwaan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya. It also featured Suneil Shetty's son, Ahan Shetty who plays the role of Lieutenanat Commander Ms Rawat. And Diljit Dosanjh is the one who played the role of Indian Air Force officer, Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon. However, it is Sonam Bajwa's role that puts highlight on the airforce officer's widow, Manjir Kaur and how she lost her husband within 10 months of marriage.

Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon was a flying officer, who was killed at the age of 26 during the India-Pakistan war. He was the pilot of the Indian Air Force and the only officer who bestowed with the highest honour of Param Vir Chakra, which is the highest military award in India. He was given the award for his extraordinary display of courage. However, he was married to Manjit Kaur at a young age.

As per reports, the two got married in February 1971. There wedding was performed as per simple Punjabi rituals of that time in Ludhiana, Punjab. However, the worse below in Manjir Kaur's life was when her young husband martryed at the age of 26 within just 10 months of their marriage. As per a report by The Times Of India, Manjit Kaur married for the second time after the death of her late husband, Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon.

Coming back to the film, Sonam Bajwa played the role 'Manjit Kaur' in the film the young bride who saw her husband's mortal remains as he got martryed in the war within 10 months of their wedding. Sonam Bajwa revealed that Anurag Basu told her that she was the first person he thought of when he was finalising the role of 'Manjit'. She called the film her dream project, and said:

"Director Anurag Singh told me that when he was thinking about the character of Manjeet, my name was the first that came to his mind. That truly means a lot to me. The moment I came to know that work on Border 2 was starting, the film became a dream project for me. Being a part of such a historic and emotional project is special for every artist."
The movie is set up during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war and was a follow-up of Border, which was released 1997. The film had a strong ensemble cast, and it was on the synchornised actions lef by three defences forces of India showing extraordinary courage.
