Boney Kapoor is one of the most popular and legendary filmmakers of his generation in Bollywood. Born to a film family, and being the son of eminent producer, Surinder Kapoor, Boney has created a mark for himself in the business of filmmaking, particularly in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industries. Some of the iconic films produced by Boney include, Hum Paanch, Woh Saat Din, Mr. India, Judaai, Pukar, No Entry, Wanted among so many others. As compared to his professional success, his personal life has been quite topsy turvy. Boney was previously married to Mona Shourie, and was blessed with a son, Arjun, and a daughter, Anshula. Thereafter, he got married to legendary actress, late Sridevi, and the duo was blessed with two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi.
We recently stumbled across a rather rare picture of Boney Kapoor, from his boyhood days. The picture, which was taken from eminent filmmaker, Raj Kapoor’s daughter, Ritu Nanda’s wedding reception with legendary entrepreneur, Rajan Nanda, back in 1969. Apart from Boney, the picture also featured the iconic diva of the times, Waheeda Rehman happily posing for the lens, along with two other great actors, Kumar Gaurav and Dilip Dhawan, all merely in their boyhood age. While Waheeda looked graceful in her simple look in a gorgeous outfit, Boney, on the other hand, stole hearts with his hearty laugh, dressed in a checkered black suit, right next to the diva. On the other hand, Dilip Dhawan and Kumar Gaurav charmingly smiled at the camera, wearing formal suits as well.

A few days back, in one of his interviews with ETimes, Boney Kapoor recalled his first hit film, Hum Paanch being one of the blockbuster hits of the time. He revealed that it was only after that the film got such a humongous response at the box-office, that he was able to pay off his father, Surinder Kapoor’s debt. Moreover, he added how his elated father urged him to spend the remaining amount of Rs. 1 Lakh to go to a trip to London. In his words:
“Hum Paanch was released an it became a hit and we had enough money to pay off our dad's debts. One lakh rupees were left. So my father said, Boney, go abroad. Anil, Sanjay, Reena all have been abroad, but you haven't. Go to London."
In the same interaction, Boney Kapoor turned emotional recalling his wife, late Sridevi. When asked if he regrets that his wife could not see their daughter, Janhvi Kapoor’s debut film, Dhadak on the silver screen, the filmmaker revealed that the actress had watched Janhvi’s rushes in the film, before her demise in 2018.

Much like his wife, Sridevi, Boney Kapoor’s daughters, Janhvi and Khushi have also stepped in to follow their mother’s footsteps and enter into the world of cinema. While Janhvi has already established herself in Bollywood, Khushi, is set to make her debut with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies. In one of his previous interviews with ETimes, Boney Kapoor reacted on the same and revealed how he never expected to see Khushi choose acting as her career. He had mentioned:
“At the time when Sridevi passed away Khushi was just 16 years old. At that time she and I did not expect anything from Khushi. Although, Khushi might have had these desires and an ambition to become an actress from back then, but humne nahi socha tha ki yeh actor banegi. As parents we were just busy making sure she studies well and finishes her schooling.”
