Sridevi left a void in the hearts of her daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, her husband, Boney, and millions of her fans when she left for her heavenly abode on February 24, 2018, due to accidental drowning. While Janhvi Kapoor was promoting her now-released film, Mr & Mrs Mahi, she talked about her mother's superstitious side. During an interview with The Lallantop, the actress shared that her mother would do certain things on certain days of the week, which even included not cutting hair on Fridays. Revealing that she became religious after Sridevi's demise, Janvhi added:

"However, after she passed away, I started believing in them, maybe even too much. I don’t know if I was this religious and spiritually inclined when she was around. We all followed these practices because Mamma did. But following her demise, the relationship our culture and history have with Hinduism… I think I started taking refuge in our religion a lot more."

She was quoted as saying:

"I think it took me a while when it happened to kind of accept it. I think it did suddenly hit me after a while. But I was a bit confused, I don't know. But I had Janhvi, and I had dad. So, they were just kind of there to help. I think I felt that I had to hold it together for everyone because I feel I've always been the strong one."
