It also broke the record for the most pre-saved album on the platform. Amid the endearing response to Taylor's new songs, fans noticed a reaction from Blake Lively. It was particularly notable as reports of the duo's strained relationship have been circulating for a while now.
Blake Lively reacted to the release of Taylor Swift's album, The Life of a Showgirl, by liking the singer's Instagram post celebrating the album's debut with behind-the-scenes photos. The subtle gesture came amid persistent rumours that the two friends had a fallout, leading to Blake's latest social media activity sparking several fan theories. The most popular interpretation of her hitting the heart button on Taylor's post was that it was a sign the duo's relationship was on the mend. Fans were thrilled at seeing Blake and Taylor's online interaction.
Rumours that Taylor Swift and Blake Lively had a falling out stemmed from the messy legal battle surrounding the latter's film, It Ends With Us. Reports circulated that Taylor felt used when her name was dragged into the drama, which was further complicated by an alleged security scare at Travis Kelce's home. Theories circulated regarding Blake Lively chasing clout through her bond with Taylor. Their speculations about Blake's rift with Taylor and the gang intensified after the former was seen missing from Selena Gomez's bachelorette party, pre-wedding festivities, and wedding.
In December 2024, Blake Lively sued her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment. The legal fight intensified when Blake Lively reportedly used Taylor's influence as leverage during a heated debate. Court documents revealed that Blake sent Justin text messages referring to Taylor and Ryan Reynolds as her protective 'dragons'. According to sources, Taylor was furious about being included in what she viewed as Blake's personal dispute. Justin Baldoni's lawyers subpoenaed Taylor to testify in the case.
While the subpoena was later dropped, a process server was sent to deliver the documents to her personally. However, things turned messy when the process server was caught red-handed trespassing at Travis Kelce's Kansas City home and was arrested. However, later, it was revealed that the song is about a friend from Taylor's high school days who passed away. Many believed that Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl song, Cancelled! was a public offer of reconciliation to Blake and was a sign that their friendship was on the mend.
The lyrics of the song, which led fans to believe the same, were "Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I like 'em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal" and "Now you know exactly who your friends are / We're the ones with matching scars."
