Netizens Slam Bhagyashree's Views On Feminism, Say, 'Career Given Up Due To Insecure Husband..'

Former Bollywood actress, Bhagyashree expressed her views on feminism and shared that many women misunderstood the word and thought it meant to be a rebel. She believed that feminism was about advocating equal rights and opportunities for both genders who wanted to pursue their dreams. Her views on women drinking and wearing skimpy clothes as men do the same do not make them feminist was questioned by netizens. Her opinions on women being 'caregivers' and men being 'protectors' were also not taken well by the netizens. They slammed her husband, Himalaya Dasani, for dominating and making the actress leave Bollywood.

Netizens question Bhagyashree's exit from Bollywood as she speaks on feminism

During an interview with Hauterrfly, Bhagyashree said she did not blame only the men but also women for not understanding the concept of feminism. She spoke about bra-burning women who say they will wear what they want, talk, and do what they like. She said it was not equality as misbehaving, getting sloshed, and wearing fewer clothes did not make one a feminist. The video went viral on Reddit and angered netizens. They subtly called her husband, Himalaya, a male chauvinist. 

Netizens opine on Bhagyashree's views on feminism

For the unversed, Bhagyashree, after making her debut opposite Salman Khan in Maine Pyar Kiya, bid adieu to the cinema. One angry user on Reddit wrote, "Says the woman who had to give up her career beacuse her husband was insecure about what a sensation she had become with her first movie; so much so that she agreed to do movies only if her husband was cast opposite her and none of the movies they did together was a hit."

The user noted that the actress had bowed down to patriarchy and that destroyed her career and if she were a feminist, she would have fought for her right to work. Another user said the actress was rich enough and privileged enough to survive and lead a good lifestyle. A third one shared, "She became an overnight star with Maine Pyar Kiya and directors were lining up at her doorstep to sign her and she herself has said in many interviews during that time, that it was entirely her husband's decision that she should not be working with any other male costars."

When Bhagyashree shared that her husband was called a villain

During an earlier interview with the ETimes, the actress shared that when Maine Pyar Kiya happened and Himalaya and she tied the knot, people didn’t know anything about him. People had painted him as a villain because she got married to him and stopped working. However, her kids, Abhimanyu and Avantika Dassani were supportive towards her comeback with her cameo appearance in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, next to Salman Khan.

Bhagyashree feels equal rights for men and women no longer exist

In the same interview with Hauterrfly, the actress shared that equality was always about giving everyone an equal chance to complete their dreams. She felt that it was lost in the bargain. However, she also said that women are more nurturing and sensitive and are also able to take a lot more than a man.
