Doctors are next to divine entities whenever something crucial happens to a patient. But what if that doctor becomes the mastermind of a cold-blooded murder? Crime and its motive can never be justified. We came across a Bengaluru doctor named Mahendra Reddy, who allegedly murdered his newlywed wife, Dr. Kruthika M. Reddy, with an anaesthetic drug. Kritika Reddy was a dermatologist. However, on April 24, 2025, Kritika was declared dead by the authorities of Cauvery Hospital.
On April 24, 2025, the 29-year-old dermatologist, Dr. Kruthika M. Reddy, was taken to Cauvery Hospital in an unconscious state and was declared dead. Initially, the victim’s family and doctors believed that she died of natural causes. However, it was her sister, Dr. Nikitha M. Reddy, who thought otherwise. Suspecting foul play, she asked the hospital to find out the cause of death.
Following Nikitha’s request, the hospital filed a Medico Legal Case (MLC) with Marathahalli police, who began the probe of an unnatural death. Six months later, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report confirmed that the 29-year-old dermatologist died due to the anaesthetic drug, Propofol. This powerful anaesthetic drug is used only during surgeries, which were found in Kruthika’s multiple organs.
Police later revealed that Kruthika’s husband and doctor, Mahendra, had secretly given the former a high dose of the drug between April 21, 2025 and April 23, 2025, while pretending to give her medication for gastritis at her parents’ house. According to multiple reports, the victim had multiple health issues, including low blood pressure and gastrointestinal problems.
After the FSL report confirmed the presence of the powerful anaesthetic drug, the victim’s father registered a police complaint, alleging that his son-in-law had murdered his daughter on the pretext of giving her medication. Following the complaint, police tracked the victim’s husband and doctor, Mahendra Reddy, down to Manipal in Udupi district, where he was attending a medical conference, and took him into custody. An officer said:

"The accused has taken a defensive stand, stating that he had treated his wife for gastrointestinal issues and that administering anaesthesia was part of it. However, he has no explanation for the overdose."
After Kruthika Reddy’s tragic demise at the age of 29, doctors issued a death memo, which made the post-mortem necessary to determine the exact cause. However, her husband, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, strongly opposed it. He also convinced Kruthika’s father, K. Muni Reddy, to request the police to stop the procedure. Despite their requests, Additional Commissioner of Police, Ramesh Banoth, confirmed that the autopsy had to be done as per law since a death memo was issued. Heartbroken, Muni told the authorities:
"I cannot think of doctors cutting my daughter's body into pieces and examining it. Please don't do it". .
Police suspect Mahendra was upset about his wife Kruthika’s long-term ill health problems, which he discovered soon after their marriage, and blamed her parents for hiding them. Her father’s complaint also mentioned that Mahendra often asked for money to build a hospital. In fact, the victim’s brother-in-law stated that Mahendra was having an affair with a woman from his college days. Although the real motive behind the murder has not yet been revealed, investigators suspect that financial issues, health problems and the affair together may have led Mahendra to plan the cold-blooded murder of his wife.
Kruthika and Mahendra tied the knot and had an arranged marriage on May 26, 2024. According to the former’s family, they had spent around Rs. 2 crore for their wedding. The duo were professional doctors and even worked together at Victoria Hospital.
Heartfelt condolences to Dr. Kruthika Reddy's family.
