Iconic singer and musician, late Bappi Lahiri, needs no introduction as he was often regarded as one of the most versatile composers of all time. However, he was renowned for extensively introducing synthesised disco in Indian cinema. Bappi Lahiri had given some incredibly famous tracks in the late 1970s-80s in the films like Disco Dancer, Sharaabi, Chalte Chalte, and the list goes on.
Fondly known as 'Bappi da', he was popular for his fascination for gold. He was also known as the true blue 'Disco King' of Bollywood and was madly in love with his wife, Chitrani Lahiri. Unfortunately, there's hardly anything about their love story in the media. During Bappi's visit on a television chat show, he had shared everything about his love life with his wife, Chitrani.

In an appearance on the famous chat show, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, hosted by the late actor, Farooq Shaikh, the iconic music composer and singer, Bappi Lahiri, had opened up about his wife, Chitrani Lahiri. Chitrani had joined the veteran composer on the chat show, and it was one of the rare times when they had graced a show together. During the conversation, Bappi Lahiri had talked about his married life with Chitrani and had revealed that the song, Pyar Manga Hai, sung by him, was inspired by their love story.
When Bappi Lahiri was asked to reflect on the time he and his wife, Chitrani had spent together before their marriage, the singer had revealed that they were family friends, which is why they had got a lot of chances to meet each other. Bappi Lahiri had also added that Chitrani had always inspired him to be better in life. He had also shared that he had sung a song for the film, Pratima Aur Payal, with so much dedication because it had his wife's name 'Chitrani' in its lyrics. He had said:
"As she said, we were family friends. I had met her long ago in Kolkata, when we were both very young. But whenever I used to meet her, I was inspired. Then, I had recorded a song for a film called Pratima Aur Payal."

Going further in the conversation, Bappi Lahiri had also added that he and his wife, Chitrani Lahiri were friends since their childhood days. The singer was also asked how he and Chitrani had fallen in love with each other. To this, Bappi's wife, Chitrani had stated that she didn't know what had happened but had hinted that everything had gone too fast for them. The doting wife had revealed that when she had got married to Bappi, while she was 18-years-old, he was 23-years-old. She had said:
"Actually we are family friends, from childhood… Bas kya hua, I don't know. No details, we got married so soon. I was 18 and he was 23."
For the unversed, Bappi Lahiri had got married to the love of his life, Chitrani, in 1977. The stunning couple is blessed with two talented children, Bappa Lahiri and Reema Lahiri. While Reema had followed her father's footsteps and had become a singer, Bappa also works in the music industry. Sadly on February 16, 2022, Bappi Lahiri had breathed his last at CritiCare Hospital, Mumbai. As per the reports, he had died due to a breathing disorder, obstructive sleep apnea.
Bappi Lahiri will always be remembered for introducing synthesised disco music in the Indian film industry and giving so many timeless tracks to the nation.
