Salman Khan's 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2' To Come Soon? Kabir Khan Hints At A Sequel, 'Maybe Now, Or...'

Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which premiered on July 17, 2015, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, marking a decade since the film became a global blockbuster. Starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles, the film received widespread acclaim across the world. Audiences were deeply moved by Salman’s portrayal of a kind-hearted man who crosses borders to reunite a mute Pakistani girl with her family. While there have been talks of a sequel over the years, director Kabir Khan has now dropped a fresh hint about Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 ahead of the film’s milestone anniversary.

Kabir Khan breaks silence on Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 

Over the years, Kabir Khan and Salman Khan have collaborated on three films: Ek Tha Tiger, Tubelight, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Two of these became massive blockbusters, with Bajrangi Bhaijaan standing out as one of the most iconic films of Salman’s career. In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Kabir Khan opened up about the developments surrounding a potential sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

The filmmaker confirmed the buzz, saying that a sequel to the iconic film is in talks, but both he and Salman agree that it needs to be something that's carefully curated to do justice to the original film. He shared:

“We have definitely spoken about Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2. In today’s day and age, when all franchises are doing well, we are being careful about Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 as we don’t want to make a sequel to the most popular film of the last two decades for the sake of it. Salman and I are in complete agreement on the fact that we need to come across a story that’s as exciting as Bajrangi Bhaijaan.”

The filmmaker clarified that despite the massive box office collection in the first part, the sequel is made more out of the need to do justice to the legacy of the film rather than earn more money from it. While there's nothing concrete as of now, Kabir assured that Bajarangi Bhaijaan 2 will definitely happen one day. In his words:

“We don’t want to make a film to cash in on the legacy of the first part. We don’t want to spoil the legacy of a beautiful film like Bajrangi Bhaijaan. If and when a story hits us – maybe now, or a year later – we will definitely bring Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2.”

Why did Kabir Khan decide on a Bajrangi Bhaijaan sequel?

Kabir Khan, throughout his filmmaking career, has steered away from making sequels, but Bajrangi Bhaijaan might be the exception. Given the overwhelmingly positive reactions to the film’s beautiful and emotional storyline, he feels the audience deserves a story that honours this legacy. He was quoted as saying:

“In my entire career, I have never followed the sequel route, but I know the kind of joy Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 can bring to the audiences. I would love to direct Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2, but for the right reasons and not the wrong ones. I don’t want to do it for the sake of box office numbers, but to do justice to the legacy of a cult like Bajrangi Bhaijaan.”
