Dulquer Salmaan’s Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has become one of the most talked-about films of 2025. The film’s unique mix of action, myth and emotional strength has managed to impress the audiences across India. After its blockbuster run at the theatres, the film has made its debut on OTT platforms. Amid the hype and excitement, actor, Ayushmann Khurrana, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming romantic horror-comedy Thamma, recently spoke about Dulquer Salmaan's film, which sparked online debate.
Earlier, during a promotional interview for his upcoming film, Thamma, Ayushmann Khurrana mentioned that his film was a 'more massy' one because it will reach Hindi-speaking markets. His statement quickly went viral and sparked online debate as netizens felt the actor was comparing the popularity and quality of both films. His exact statement was:
"So ours is a more massy film because it penetrates down to the Hindi-speaking markets also. Lokah could be a good induction for certain multiplex audiences towards this genre, but we have a different genesis, different situations, and it’s a different story."
However, after the backlash, the actor explained his previous statement in a recent interview. He explained that the reason he called his film 'massier' was because Thamma would be able to reach regions where Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra couldn't. He also revealed that he is a fan of Dulquer Salmaan's film and really enjoyed watching it. He was quoted as saying:
"What I meant to say was that the Hindi-speaking market mein — like I was shooting in Allahabad waha Lokah release nahi hui thi. Thamma will reach those places. Main dekhna chahta tha par waha release hi nahi hui thi. Jab main Mumbai aaya tab maine dekhi."
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is a Malayalam film, which follows 'Chandra', a mysterious woman, who moves to Bangalore and soon gets involved in an organ-trafficking gang. The film explores 'Chandra' and her supernatural powers tied to old local myths. After its release, while some fans praised the film for its narrative, strong performance and stunning visuals, critics pointed out issues of pace and long runtime.
Despite mixed reviews, the film, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra earned an impressive amount at the box-office and became one of 2025's breakout pan-Indian successes. After the amazing success of the film, the producer of the film, Dulquer Salmaan announced its sequel, which would focus on Tovino Thomas' character.
