Aubrey Plaza Is Pregnant, Expecting Her First Child After One Year Of Husband, Jeff Baena's Death

Actress and comedian Aubrey Plaza has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry through her on-screen portrayals of fan-favourite characters. Aubrey was married to filmmaker Jeff Baena in 2021. However, the two parted ways four months before Jeff’s death in January 2025. Post her split from Jeff, Aubrey found love in Chris Abbott. Now, Aubrey is pregnant with their first child.

Aubrey Plaza is set to welcome her first child with partner Chris Abbott, as confirmed by a representative. The actress is due this fall. According to an insider, Aubrey’s pregnancy comes as a “beautiful surprise” following a challenging emotional year, as the couple expressed feeling “blessed” by the news. Aubrey and Chris previously collaborated on the off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and the 2020 film Black Bear.

Aubrey, who lost her ex-husband, Jeff Baena, in January 2025, was spotted sitting in the front row at Paris Fashion Week in March, 2026. The actress wore an oversized leather jacket paired with a red sweater and booties to hide her baby bump. She has been hiding her bump for some time as she showcased another stylish yet loose-fitting ensemble at the Lacoste presentation.

Aubrey Plaza’s previous marriage to Jeff Baena and their split

Aubrey and Jeff met in 2011, during a game of Balderdash. After getting together, the first film that the actress and director duo worked on together was Life After Beth. In 2017, Aubrey Plaza was the producer and also starred as the main lead in The Little Hours, directed by Jeff Baena. Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena tied the knot in 2021 in an intimate ceremony.

It was when Aubrey called Jeff her 'darling husband' that people learned of their marital status. However, three years into the marriage, they separated in silence in September 2024. While neither Plaza nor Baena publicly addressed their silent separation, a report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealed that the couple had been ‘experiencing marital difficulties’ in 2024 before officially separating. 

Despite their split and not living with each other, Aubrey and Jeff’s relationship never turned sour, and they deeply cared for each other. On January 3, 2025, Jeff passed away tragically and Aubrey was devastated by the news. Jeff and Aubrey had spoken the night before his death, and he even sent her a text message just three hours before he was found dead. It was an emotional phase for Aubrey to deal with Jeff’s death. The actress later found love in the arms of Chris Abbott.
