Atul Subhash is the name that is doing rounds all over the internet, from media portals to influencers; almost everyone is talking about the 34-year-old techie who committed suicide. Atul was a techie who worked as a deputy general of a private firm in Bengaluru, and he was found dead in his flat at Manjunatha Layount's Delfinium Residency on December 9, 2024. After his death, a 24-page suicide note, a 90-minute video, and a checklist of his final days made their way onto the internet and left everyone in absolute shock.
As per Atul Subhash's suicide note, he committed suicide after he couldn't find a solution to fight against the corrupt legal system that supported his wife, Nikita Singhania. The chilling revelations have once again started the debate around Indian laws, which are once again facing allegations of being in favour of women. Once again, '#MenLivesMatter' and '#MenToo' hashtags are doing rounds on the internet. For the uninitiated, according to a report, last year in 2023, 1,18,979 married men and 45,026 married women committed suicide.
After Atul Subhash's heartbreaking suicide, Bengaluru police filed an FIR against four people, Atul's wife, Nikita Singhania; his mother-in-law, Nisha Singhania; Nikita's brother, Anurag Singhania and Nikita's uncle, Sushil Singhania. Bengaluru police filed an FIR after Atul Subhash's brother, Bikas Kumar lodged a police complaint at Marathahalli Police Station. Nisha and her family have been charged under section 108 (abetment of suicide) and section 3 (5) (establishes joint criminal liability when two or more people act with a common intention) of the BNS.
Atul Subhash's suicide note and video have also mentioned the name of Rita Kaushik, who is currently serving as the judge of the Jaunpur Principal Family Court. In his suicide note, Atul shared that Rita Kaushik demanded a bribe of Rs. 5 lakhs to settle the case. The Bengaluru techie also added that Rita Kaushik and a court clerk also demanded Rs. 3 lakhs to schedule the hearing dates. When Atul Subhash denied giving a bribe to the clerk, the latter warned him of a court ruling against him and mandating a monthly alimony of Rs. 80,000 to his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania.
In his heartbreaking video, Atul Subhash revealed that his wife, Nikita Singhania, allegedly demanded a sum of Rs. 3 crore in order to withdraw the case. Not only this, he also accused her of asking Rs. 30 lakhs for visitation rights to his son. As per Atul Subhash, Nikita had filed eight false cases against him in the court. All these things frustrated Atul Subhash to the point where he decided to end his life.

In a conversation with ANI, Atul Subhash's brother, Bilas Kumar opened up about his late brother's last wish and shared that he wanted his ashes to be devoured in Ganga if he wins against the corrupt system. However, if he fails to win against the system, Atul wants his mortal remains to be devoured in a gutter outside the court. The doting brother further added that there should be a proper investigation into this matter, and the culprits should be punished no matter what. He also added that Justice Rita Kaushik should also be investigated in his brother's suicide case.
After Atul Subhash passed away due to suicide, his 24-page note and videos went viral on social media and broke many people's hearts. As a result, the furious netizens started tagging Atul Subhash's wife, Nikita Singhania's company, Accenture and urged them to fire her. For the uninitiated, Nikita works as an AI/ML Computational Science Specialist at Accenture. After receiving a lot of angry tweets, Accenture has locked its Twitter handle. A user wrote, "Dear Accenture, you have 24 hours to fire the murderer of Atul Subhash. Your time starts now." Famous journalist, Nupur J Sharma wrote:
"She shouldn't be fired. The wife should be arrested and thrown in jail. The judge who sat by and laughed, mocked and refused to deliver justice should be prosecuted and impeached. What is wrong with women downplaying the death of Atul Subhash?"
In a conversation with ANI, Atul Subhash's father, Pawan Kumar talked about his 34-year-old son's suicide and clearly stated that the court didn't follow the law and order. The devastated father even accused the Supreme Court of being biased and added that the judicial system pushed his son to the edge during the ongoing battle over divorce and child custody.
Pawan Kumar also revealed that his son was tortured mentally and physically, as he was forced to travel from Bengaluru to Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh). It's fair to say that this case has become a national topic and is getting much attention. We hope India's judicial system soon announces its final verdict in this case so that it can send a positive message loud and clear to all the men who are scared of marriage at the moment due to divorce law amendments.
