Reid Wiseman Once Shared How Wife, Carroll Despite Battling Cancer Refused Relocation Due To His Job

Reid Wiseman is one of the NASA astronauts who will travel around the moon with Victor Glover, Jeremy Hansen, and Christina Koch. There are three veteran astronauts and a Canadian rookie in the Artemis II mission. Well, Commander, Reid Wiseman is a single father to two daughters. Reid's wife, Carroll Taylor, passed away after a long fight with cancer back in 2020. However, Reid had once revealed that he wanted to move back in with Carroll's family, but she wanted him to pursue his dreams.

Reid Wiseman once shared how his late wife, Carroll, didn't relocate as she did not want him to quit his job

Reid Wiseman's wife, Carroll Taylor, was a registered nurse who passed away in 2020. In an earlier interview with CBS News, Reid Wiseman revealed that when Carroll really started getting sick, he wanted to move her back to where her family was from. However, Carroll had refused to relocate despite fighting cancer and had said, as quoted by Reid:

"And she's like, 'No, this is where you work. This is the job you love. This is where you work, and this is where our kids are growing up, and we are going to stay right here.' To me, that was marching orders ... to continue down this path."

Well, the Commander in space is carrying some notepaper along with a pencil. He wants to record his thoughts as he looks at the majestic view of the Moon and the Earth. Well, Reid's colleague, Victor Glover, who is the mission pilot, has packed his Bible. He is a committed Christian. While Jeremy Hansen, Canadian Space Agency astronaut, took four moon pendants. He got it for his wife and kids. He has collected them and will travel with them on his trip that will go down in history.

Reid Wiseman has been very private about his wife and has not spoken much about her in the media. He has always been protective of his family's privacy. He shared that raising his daughters as a single dad has been one of his biggest challenges. Reid, in an interview with the publication, had revealed:

"They would rather I not go. They would definitely rather I be a stay-at-home dad and hang out. But they also know that this is a unique opportunity. You know, the parents have to live their dreams just like the kids have to live their dreams."

Mission commander, Reid Wiseman, aged 50, was born in Baltimore and got a degree in computer and systems engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also has a master's degree in systems engineering from Johns Hopkins University. However, he has not protected his daughters from the risks his work entails. A report by the Daily Mail revealed that once, during a walkout with his kids, Reid told them about what they needed to do if something happened to him. He had said:

"Here's where the will is, here's where the trust documents are, and if anything happens to me, here's what's going to happen to you… That's part of this life, because you never know what the next day is going to bring".

For Reid, raising his two daughters alone has not been easy. Well, speaking about going to the Artemis mission with Victor, Christina and Jeremy, Reid revealed that the astronauts are very driven and want to do. He wants that in the future and decades to come by their flight acts like a small step towards folks living on the Moon and eventually someday walking on Mars.
