Bollywood actor, Arjun Kapoor had a killer comeback in 2024 with Rohit Shetty's Singham Again. The actor essayed the negative role of Danger Lanka, which was loved by his sea of fans. However, ever since his debut film, Ishqzaade (2012) opposite Parineeti Chopra, the actor has always been slammed. Recently, he revealed how people judged him due to his surname and wanted to see him fail.
Arjun, in a conversation with Raj Shamani for his podcast, Figuring Out, revealed that some people wanted to see him fail. The actor, who has done a phenomenal job in Singham Again, also said that many reactions were based on his surname and personal life. A lot of judgements were made on the movies of the actor which had tanked at the box office. Arjun shared:
"The perception was that I didn’t like working, didn’t care about my work, wasn’t interested in improving, and didn’t deserve to be an actor. This sentiment was amplified by the physical struggles I faced during a significant period in my career, which stemmed from health issues I only recently spoke about. I understood how this narrative made it easy for people to throw darts at me."
Going further in the interview, the actor was asked about the pressure he had undergone while he was doing Singham Again. This was because he was doing the movie opposite top stars like Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The actor said he felt happy when Rohit sir told me that people were now talking about me and recognising my ownership of the film. In his words:
"It was a graceful moment because, for a long time, people wanted me to fail. By people, I mean those who are slightly critical, clickbaity, and prone to trolling—they saw me as an easy target.”
The actor also mentioned in the podcast a hard-hitting review that was made for his film, Kuttey. Arjun had felt that he was being personally attacked, and noted that he respected films being reviewed but he never liked being under the radar of personal attack.
Earlier, in an interview with India Today Digital, the actor revealed that he was dealing with mild depression. He said that when one goes through mental health issues or going through tough circumstances, one needs to understand why the situation happens with them. "As someone who never really had these traits. I was confused. I suddenly started developing tendencies like overthinking and a lack of motivation. I wasn't enjoying regular things, like watching a film at night. I didn't isolate myself— I reached out. I spoke to friends, family members, and a therapist. I would like to say nobody should ever go into a shell alone.”
