AR Rahman Faces Backlash For Working With Jani Master Accused Of Harassment, Netizens React

Oscar-winning singer, AR Rahman has been dragged into another controversy. It happened after he collaborated with choreographer, Jani Master on the song, Chikiri Chikiri for Ram Charan's upcoming film, Peddi. Fans were left completely shocked by the move, and they took to social media to express outrage against their favourite music composer.

AR Rahman gets slammed for collaborating with the accused of sexual harassment, Jani Master

For those who don't know, Jani Master was previously accused of se***lly harassing a minor who was working as his assistant choreographer. Social media users were left baffled by AR Rahman's decision and called it 'insensitive'. On November 9, 2025, Jani Master took to his Instagram handle and shared photos with AR Rahman and the director, Buchi Babu Sana, who directed Peddi.

The film's stars, Ram Charan and Jani Master, choreographed him for the song, Chikiri Chikiri. Sharing the glimpses, Jani mentioned that he grew up watching AR Rahman's songs, and he could not believe he had the opportunity to choreograph one of his compositions. He thanked AR Rahman for supporting him, and wrote:

"We grew up watching and dancing to Legendary @arrahman Sir’s songs and I can’t believe I choreographed this chartbuster #ChikiriChikiri in his composition. Thank you for your kind words of support Sir… Grateful for the opportunity Mega Power Star @alwaysramcharan Anna #BuchiBabuSana garu @rathnaveludop Sir & entire @peddimovieoffl movie Team (folded hand emoji)."

Soon, the post went viral, and several social media users started slamming AR Rahman for collaborating with Jani Master. Many wondered why the Oscar-winning composer chose to work with someone accused of sexual assault. One claimed Rahman didn't work with Tamil lyricist, Variamuthu, who had nearly 20 complaints from women against him. 

Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, one user wrote, "Wasn’t he expelled from the dancers association for POCSO charges? Then how’s he getting chances again to work? And ARR choosing to not work with Vairamuthu for a case that’s not been charged while happily posing with a pedo who’s under bail is something I can’t wrap around."

Another one commented, "How is Jani any different from Vairamuthu? If ARR outright rejected Vairamuthu, why doesn't he do the same to this PDF?" Another one penned, "Film Industry is still feeding Rapists, Misogynists & the so-called Big celebrities never failed to disappoint me." 

Why are people infuriated with AR Rahman's collaboration with Jani Master?

In September 2024, Jani Master was called by the police and taken to Hyderabad, where he was produced before a city court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. A woman who worked as an assistant choreographer filed a complaint against Jani Master for sexually assaulting her in 2020 during a work trip to Mumbai. She claimed that he continued harassing her and threatened her not to talk about it to anyone. 

Later, the Narsingi Police registered a case and recorded her statement. It was revealed that she was a minor at that time when Jani Master first committed the alleged crime. Therefore, a POCSCO Act 2012 was added in the case. As a necessary measure to curb the outrage of the public, Jani Master's National Film Award was suspended by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as he faced rape allegations against him. It is worth noting that Jani Master is currently out on bail.
