AR Rahman's Daughter, Khatija Trolled For Wearing Burqa, He Slams The Hate Brigade With Epic Reply

AR Rahman, the musical genius, was in Mumbai on Monday (February 04, 2019) to commemorate the 10 years of Slumdog Millionaire. He had won two Oscars in 2009 for composing the music of the Danny Boyle film. Performing on the stage in a function in Dharavi, little did AR Rahman know that soon he and his family will be trolled and dragged into a hate campaign on social media. What happened was that AR Rahman's daughter, Khatija was asked to come up on the stage and speak words of reverence for her father, AR. As soon as the pictures from the event surfaced online, the hate brigade on social media started accusing Rahman sir forcing Khatija to wear a burqa in public. All that she did was wear a burqa, and trolls quickly jumped into the bandwagon and started commenting things like, "Sir, I thought your religion was music. I was wrong," and began questioning AR's ideologies on freedom of speech and expression, and heavily trolled Khatija.

AR's daughter, Khatija also took to her Facebook account to voice her opinions on the matter. Khatija's post started with these words, "There were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents." She further wrote "The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane, mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing."

Finally, captioning her post with the words, 'freedom of choice', Khatija concluded by saying, "I'm a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that's what I've been doing. Hence, kindly don't make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation #FreedomOfChoice."

AR Rahman

Time and again, AR Rahman is embroiled in some controversy or the other. In the year 2017, some of his fans who had come to watch him perform live had left the concert mid-way because he had started playing Tamil songs. The whole brouhaha left Rahman under the scanner and talking to a leading news channel, he had then said, "We try our best. We try to be honest. I love the way how people have supported for all these years without them I'm nothing. I'm grateful to all of them." AR Rahman

Isn't this ridiculous that even in 2019 we troll celebrities on the matters of their clothing style and unnecessarily target them? What do you think of the whole controversy?
