AR Rahman Breaks Silence On His Split With Ex-Wife, Saira Banu, Says, 'It's A Wonder I Got...'

Famous singer-composer, AR Rahman and his ex-wife, Saira Banu, were one of the steady couples in the music fraternity who successfully maintained their 29 years of marriage. The couple had two daughters and a son. But after 29 years of marriage, AR Rahman made the headlines after he announced his divorce from Saira Banu, calling off their long journey of marriage. On November 19, 2024, the couple announced their separation. In a recent interview, AR Rahman broke his silence after coming under extreme public scrutiny involving his divorce.

AR Rahman shared that he took the public scrutiny in a positive way

After AR Rahman parted ways with Saira Banu, and announced his divorce, it attracted much gossip and immense public scrutiny. However, in a recent interview with India Today, the singer finally decided to address the issue. He went on to say that he took the incessant scrutiny in a positive way and acknowledged that the matter only showed how many people loved and cared about him. Speaking about the same, AR Rahman said:

“I’ve faced my ups and downs, and that’s the truth. Each one of us has a special quality—they are a superhero in their own home. But I was made a superhero by my fans. That’s why I have named my upcoming tour ‘Wonderment,’ because it’s a wonder that I receive so much love and blessings from people.”

AR Rahman got divorced from Saira Banu in 2024

For those unaware, AR Rahman announced the split with Saira Banu on November 19, 2024. It was a mutual divorce, and the reason cited was the emotional strain in their relationship. As per the India Today report, Saira Banu’s lawyer highlighted the reason behind such a decision. Saira Banu’s lawyer said that it was difficult for her client to move out of her marriage with AR Rahman. Addressing the same, the lawyer said:

“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time."

AR Rahman penned down an emotional note after his divorce announcement

Post divorce, AR Rahman took to his X handle and penned down a heartfelt note. He mentioned that although he and his wife dreamt of celebrating thirty years of marriage, the long-cherished journey came to an end. Addressing the end of his marriage, he penned:

“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
