AR Rahman and Saira Banu made a heart-wrenching announcement on November 19, 2024, declaring their divorce after 29 years of marriage. The couple was about to mark their 30th year together, had always been a symbol of love and togetherness. Their sudden separation was a complete and unexpected shock to their fans. Saira Banu's lawyer, Vandana Shah, issued a joint statement on the couple's behalf, confirming their decision to part ways.
In a recent The Chill Hour podcast, a celebrity divorce lawyer, Vandana Shah, talked in detail about the nitty-gritty of celebrity divorces. She not only shed light on AR Rahman and Saira Banu's split but also revealed the main reason why some celebrity couples opt for divorce.

Vandana, in The Chill Hour podcast, shared that divorces in Bollywood are seldom caused due to infidelity, contrary to popular beliefs. Celebrity couples mostly split due to boredom as it is very common in Bollywood as people there have seen it all. This is quite peculiar but it is true in super-wealthy Bollywood families. Vandana further added:
“Their (Bollywood) lives are very different. I don’t think infidelity is the cause of a lot of breakdowns in marriages. What is the cause of that marriage breakdown? One is boredom in a marriage because you have seen it all. They move on from one marriage to another because of boredom and that is very peculiar to Bollywood and super-rich families."
Vandana also revealed that in Bollywood, the sexual lives of people are much different than those of normal people. The expectation from intercourse is much higher, and that massively impacts their lives. Adultery and one-night stands are also ubiquitous. However, the main reason for split is often boredom and how one does not give enough time to their spouse.
“Secondly, I think they live very different sexual lives which are not out there. The expectations from a sex life are much higher than maybe a normal person’s marriag. Third, adultery happens and one-night stands really don’t matter as much. I’m not a part of Bollywood, I’m just saying from whatever cases have come to me. The main issues are boredom, not being given enough importance or having to listen to others who are not part of the marriage. Others can be the mother, the brother who is providing or the father-in-law."
Vandana Shah added that every long marriage hits a rough patch, but she is glad that AR Rahman and Saira Banu have decided to part ways in a dignified manner. She also added that the duo will continue to support each other in all highs and lows and will always remain family. In Vandana's words:
