Is Anushka Sharma's Cryptic IG Story A Subtle Dig At BCCI's No-Family Rule? Her Timing Sparks Buzz

Anushka Sharma has been the biggest cheerleader of Virat Kohli, be it during those high-stakes matches on the field or in real-life situations. The actress has once again grabbed headlines, but this time, it’s not for her films or heartwarming appearances at cricket matches. It’s for a note that she recently posted on her Instagram, which has people reading between the lines. Many believe that the actress’s post could be a subtle dig at BCCI’s controversial rule that Virat addressed in his latest interview.

Anushka Sharma’s post sparks speculation

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, Anushka Sharma posted a thought-provoking message on social media. Taking to her IG Stories, the actress wrote about how the idea of ‘you’ has numerous versions, depending on how one perceives it. Anushka’s note read:

“A different version of you exists in the minds of everyone who knows you. The person you think of as ‘yourself’ only exists for you, and even you don’t really know who that is. Every person you meet, have a relationship with, or make eye contact on the street with, creates a version of ‘you’ in their heads.”

In her note, Anushka also subtly hinted at how people are viewed differently by their ‘co-workers’ than they are perceived by their family members, siblings, friends or neighbours. This has led netizens to believe Anushka’s post subtly hinted at the controversial BCCI family-time restrictions, as it came shortly after Virat Kohli’s Bangalore interview, where he openly criticized the board’s new rules for international tours. Anushka wrote:

“You’re not the same person to your mom, your dad, your siblings than you are to your co-workers, your neighbours or your friends. There are a thousand different versions of yourself out there, in people’s minds. A ‘you’ exists in each version and yet your ‘you’, ‘yourself’ isn’t really a ‘someone’ at all.”

Virat Kohli expressed disappointment at BCCI’s controversial rule

Virat Kohli, in his recent interaction at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, labelled BCCI’s no-family policy as unfair and out of touch with the emotional needs of athletes, especially during lengthy international tours. In his words:

“It is very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to come back to your family every time you have something intense happening on the outside… I don’t think people have an understanding of what value it brings. I feel quite disappointed about that. People who have no control over what is going on are kind of brought into conversations and put out in the forefront. Maybe they need to be kept away.”

BCCI’s no-family rule

For those unaware, the BCCI has reportedly enforced a rule limiting the time families of cricketers can spend with them during international tours. Under the new regulation, family members are allowed to stay for only 14 days on tours exceeding 45 days. The move has sparked a heated debate within the cricketing community. Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma’s recent presence during the 2025 Champions Trophy win and other iconic moments with Virat during matches has been widely appreciated by fans.
