The high cost of filmmaking in Hindi cinema has been a prime reason for major losses to production houses and theatre owners. As per him, a prime reason for these high production costs is the high fees charged by the actors. Recently, he sat down for an interview with Bollywood Bubble, where he spoke about how the 'Khans' of Bollywood are some of the most cost-conscious actors in the industry.

The well-known actors in the industry ask for specific fees based on their box office success and popularity in making a film. However, it often puts an unnecessary strain on the film's budget. Anurag shared that a considerable 50-60% of production cost just goes into paying the star fees, and actors don't care because the market dictates it. He also revealed that he even let go of his fees several times to stay within the budget.

The Gangs of Wasseypur director added that he fortified his fees because he didn't want to replace the actors that he had cast in the film. He further revealed that the three popular 'Khans' in Bollywood who have gained massive success are the most cost-conscious in the industry. He was quoted as saying:

"Biggest example is Gangs of Wasseypur. My fees were zero because I didn't want to replace actors with big stars. Mai bade actors ke saath kaam nahi karta, lekin sabse jyada cost conscious industry mein humare teen bade stars hai- Shah Rukh, Salman aur Aamir. Teeno fees nahi lete film mein. Wo har film backend lete hai. Unki koi film costly nahi hoti."
