Anurag Kashyap Addresses Fallout With 'Dev D' Actor, Abhay Deol, Says, 'The Truth Can't Be Spoken'

Anurag Kashyap is one such filmmaker who never frets away from calling a spade, a spade. Known for his unconventional style of filmmaking, Anurag has always spoken his mind, even if it means to reveal a known secret or reveal the true nature of people in the film industry. And recently, Anurag again made headlines, after he opened up about his fallout with one of the most popular actors he has worked with, Abhay Deol.

In a recent interaction with Janice Sequeira, Anurag Kashyap talked about his side of the story, when it comes to having strained equations with several people with whom he has previously worked with. He opened up, in particular, about his fallout with Abhay Deol, whom he directed in the film, Dev D. Clarifying how it is not his perpetual habit of not maintaining cordial equations in life, Anurag revealed that he hasn’t met Abhay ever since they filmed together. In his words:

“I am not bad at maintaining relationships. Abhay, I have not met him since the shooting of Dev D. He didn’t even come for promotions and he has never spoken to me since. If he wants to call me toxic, fine, it’s his side of the story.”

Anurag says revealing the truth about his discord with Abhay would put the latter in a bad light

Moving forth in the conversation, Anurag Kashyap revealed that he doesn’t wish to divulge much about what actually went wrong between him and Abhay Deol, since at the end of the day, it might present the actor in a horrible light. Moreover, he asserted that Abhay, too, won’t like to speak much on it. He added:

“The truth can’t be spoken because if I will speak the truth, he won’t be able to show his face. There is too much truth in there that Abhay will also not have the courage to talk about. And I will not talk about it because it will make him look like s***t.” 

When Anurag accused Bollywood filmmakers to imitate budget of pan-Indian films

Earlier, while conversing with the Humans of Cinema, Anurag Kashyap accused filmmakers in Bollywood for attempting to imitate high-grossing pan-Indian films, when it comes to finalising high budgets. While copying story lines from South Indian films have indeed caused a crisis for original creativity, it has also made filmmakers just target numbers over anything at all.

Anurag Kashyap revealed how he dealt with extreme sickness in the past two years

In another segment of the same interview, Anurag Kashyap talked about why he seemingly went missing in action in the past two years. The filmmaker revealed dealing with extreme sickness that made him drained out both physically and creatively. Moreover, he divulged depending heavily on steroids for recovery, and was also suffering from depression. Anurag expressed:

“I have gone through two and a half years of extreme sickness, dependency on medicines, I have gone through my whole phase of depression. In a phase like that, you have to prioritise yourself first. So, if I am not physically, mentally, emotionally healed…. If you see my interviews of last years, you will see it is on my face how unwell I was. Even then people come and ask you to read their script.”
