The morning of June 23, 2025, brought heartbreaking news for the team of Anupamaa and the show's fans. The set of the show was destroyed in a fire hours before the shoot commenced, leading to concerns regarding the safety measures at the Film City. As the All India Cine Workers Association gets involved and raises questions, let's take a look at what happened on the set.
Anupamaa's team can't seem to catch a break. While the show was finally finding its equilibrium after a series of drama and chaos with the mass change in cast, this has left them in another mess. For the unversed, a fire broke out on the morning of June 23, 2025, on the set of the hit television serial Anupamaa in Film City, Mumbai. The blaze started around 5:00 AM and completely destroyed the set just two hours before the scheduled shoot was to begin.
Unfortunately, the workers and crew were already present for the day’s preparations. However, thankfully, there were no casualties according to the recent reports, but had the shoot started on schedule, the outcome could have been far worse, resulting in a big tragedy or even loss of life. Nonetheless, the incident has raised concerns regarding a troubling pattern of frequent fires in Mumbai's film studios. Exposing the negligence of the production team and authorities in enforcing basic fire safety standards.
Industry insiders point out that studios often skip fire audits, putting hundreds of workers and artists at risk every day. In this case, the nearby sets barely escaped the flames, as the fire department was able to control the situation in time. However, had the fire spread, the situation could have escalated into a much larger tragedy.
All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has taken a strong stand in the wake of what happened on the set of Anupamaa. The association has also urged the Maharastra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis to order a high-level judicial inquiry into the fire. AICWA has also demanded the immediate suspension of the Managing Director of Film City and Mumbai's Labour Commissioner. AICWA has been blaming both for failing to enforce the safety protocols and allegedly enabling producers to skip the mandatory precautions through inaction or collusion.

The association has also called for a criminal FIR to be lodged against Film City, the production house, the Labour Department and the television channel behind Anupamaa. The association has further raised concerns, claiming that the fire might have been intentionally triggered to make false insurance claims. It is to be noted that even the slightest possibility of that, if proven, would suggest a horrifying disregard for human life. There are also fears that actual casualties, if any, might be covered up to avoid public scrutiny and legal consequences. AICWA has asked that authorities thoroughly investigate and confirm whether any lives were lost in the incident.
What are your thoughts on the All Indian Cine Workers Association's claims and concerns in regards to the horrifying fire in Film City?
