Anupam Kher Talks About Compatibility Issues In His Marriage With Kirron, 'I Know I Have Hurt...'

Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher are one of the evergreen couples in the Bollywood film industry. Like other couples, the duo also faced numerous ups and downs in their marriage. For the unversed, Anupam and Kirron tied the knot in 1985. In a recent interview, Anupam talked about the ideal time to get married. He expressed that compatibility shouldn’t be a significant factor to consider in a relationship. Anupam also shared the lesser-known facts about his marriage to Kirron.

Anupam Kher’s take on the right time to get married

In a recent podcast, Anupam had a conversation with Raj Shamani, where he shared that people should marry before they have completely discovered the other person. He stated that when a person gets to know their partner and their wavelengths match to 10 percent, 20 percent or maximum of 30 percent, they should consider marrying. The veteran actor shared that in today’s time, love is the most confusing matter. In his words:

"The moment you find a person who is 10 percent, 20 percent, or maximum 30 percent on your wavelength get married to them. Discover the relationship afterwards. Love is the most confusing emotion in today’s time. You are in a relationship with somebody to discover what kind of person they are. But there is no sense of amazement, there is no sense of wonder about that person. I think a relationship should turn into a marriage when it is still being discovered."

In the same conversation, Anupam Kher shared that compatibility shouldn't be the main focus in a relationship. Citing examples from his parents' marriage, he explained how they didn't look for compatibility. The veteran actor expressed that he wants to accept them as they are, and like the people who enjoy exploring. In his words:

"How long have your parents been married? Did they look for compatibility? Did my parents look for compatibility? I like to accept people as they are, and I like people who want to explore. I just feel, kya ukhaad loge compatibility dhoond ke?"

Further in the conversation, Anupam talked about his marriage with Kirron and shared how failures in life come and go; one person just needs to work on it. He also shared that just like other marriages, his marriage with Kirron is not perfect or best. He went on to share that even though his marriage had its turmoils, he maintained his respect for her, compassion, and togetherness in every emotion. Sharing the bonding he has with Kirron, Anupam said:

"I accepted the fact that there will be failures in life, and that you have to work on yourself. That’s why I have achieved success both professionally and personally. It’s not like I have the best marriage in the world. Exhaustion is a part of any relationship. At some stage, that so-called fire may disappear. But memories will remain, and your intention to work on the relationship will remain. That is what has remained in my relationship. I know I have hurt her sometimes, but what I have kept alive is my respect for her, my compassion, and my togetherness of emotion."
