Anniversary is an upcoming American thriller film directed by Jan Komasa. The film will be released on October 29, 2025, and features Diane Lane, Madeline Brewer, Zoey Deutch, Phoebe Dynevor, Dylan O'Brien and Daryl McCormack. The makers of the film have released the trailer for Anniversary on August 19, 2025 (ET), and it will leave you with an eerie chill. So, without any further ado, let's take a look at what happens when a close-knit family meets 'the change' that will shake them all.
Anniversary's trailer starts with the introduction of Phoebe Dynevor as 'Liz', as she practices her pleasantries in front of a mirror. 'Liz' is dating 'Josh' essayed by Dylan O'Brien and will be meeting his parents, 'Ellen' (Diane Lane) and 'Paul' (Kyle Chandler) for the first time as his girlfriend. However, she might not be a complete stranger to the family. The dull visuals already set the tone for an upcoming turmoil that will ruin 'Ellen' and 'Paul's' 25th Anniversary.
The Anniversary is centred around a family torn apart. 'Josh' brings home his girlfriend, 'Liz', to his parents' 25th Anniversary celebration. However, his mother, 'Ellen', soon recognises 'Liz' as a former student with whom she shares a controversial past. She soon talked about her with her husband, 'Paul' and stated:
"Our son’s new girlfriend is a former student. She’s radical in her ideology. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that she’s attached herself to Josh."
Anniversary's trailer doesn't give much away, while revealing the basic plot of what viewers can expect from the film. The eerie aura around 'Liz' is enough to put her through a negative lens. It's worth noting that Phoebe has done an immaculate job, as in just the length of the short trailer, she is able to convey the 'uncomfortable chilliness' she carries, making the audience believe that something is most definitely up with her.
In a different scene, 'Josh' confronts 'Ellen' about her feelings towards his girlfriend. What started as a happy celebration soon turned into a blame fest, as 'Josh' asks his mother to at least pretend to be happy for him. He claimed that the reason why Ellen was upset was because she couldn't 'bend' 'Liz' her way.

The scenes, apart from the outdoor celebration, are made extremely dull visually, showcasing the contrast between the happy family and once the cracks become visible. However, it will be interesting to see what could be bad enough for 'Ellen' to push her family to the edge, or does she just have a conflict of opinion with 'Liz'
The quality of a good trailer is to make you want to see a movie, but also leave you unsure exactly what it’s about. The first trailer for Anniversary does just that. While it creates a sense of familiarity with its well-known plot about a 'different' new member, it also leaves several questions unanswered. The trailer looks like a slick thriller about an out-of-place new girlfriend causing havoc. From there, though, a few twists and turns reveal the world of the film is much, much darker than expected. However, the real mystery behind the tale will only unfold in October 2025, and for now, it seems like a film worth watching.
