As we all know for every statement by a celebrity there are thousands of comments and opinions, but there was an actor who despite the harsh reality of showbiz lived an unfiltered life. The 70s star, Rishi Kapoor had an extremely successful run and was well-known for his unfiltered attitude in the industry.
Recently, Ananth Mahadevan was interviewed by Siddharth Kannan. During their conversation, Ananth shared several stories and insights from Bollywood. The filmmaker also recalled an incident that included the veteran actor, Rishi Kapoor. Reflecting on the incident Ananth shared that there was this instance where Rishi was extremely angry when his son, Ranbir Kapoor. The Animal actor had ignored his father's warning against a film and did it which made Rishi Kapoor furious.
Siddharth Kannan shared the interview with, actor-filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan, on November 8, 2024. In the interview, Ananth had raw conversations about various celebrities and his experience working with them. Recounted one such interesting anecdote he shared an incident about Rishi Kapoor.
Ananth recalled an old incident involving the late Damini actor, Rishi Kapoor and his son, Ranbir Kapoor. He shared that he was visiting the actor's home when he came across an enraged Rishi Kapoor because he had warned Ranbir against doing a film, but the Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar actor still went ahead and did it. Reflecting on the incident he shared:
"I don't want to name the filmmaker or the film, but Rishi Kapoor was livid. He constantly said he tried his best to dissuade Ranbir from doing that film. I told him, 'don't do it, don't do it, this film will not run.' But he didn't listen."
Ananth shared the screen with Rishi in 1989 Yash Chopra's Chandini. Ananth played the role of 'Birjbhan Chawla' and Rishi was seen in the role of 'Rohit Gupta'. Mahadevan shared that he used to admire Rishi Kapoor's unfiltered personality. He added that he was an honest person and an extremely talented actor.
Ananth Mahadevan worked in five films with Rishi Kapoor, recalling their time together he also shared that Rishi's unfiltered talk did not leave out the filmmakers either. He would be bluntly honest about his opinion of the films. Rishi would forthrightly tell the makers if he thought the movie was going to be a flop. The filmmaker quoted:
"He used to tell directors of their face 'flop hai yaar, teri film flop hai, koi fayeda nahi hai, mat kar."
For the unversed, Rishi Kapoor made his debut as a young actor in his father Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker in 1970 for which he was also awarded the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. He got his role as a lead in the 1973 teen romance, Bobby. Rishi Kapoor's career spanned over 5 decades. His last film, Sharmaji Namkeen was under production when the star passed away. However, the film was released in March 2022, with Paresh Rawal as a substitute for Rishi's missing portions of the film.
