Veteran actress, Amrita Singh made her movie debut with the 1983 film, Betaab opposite Sunny Deol. After working in a number of films, she got married to Saif Ali Khan in 1991. Afterwards, it was in 1993, when she was last seen in the film, Rang, before she took a sabbatical to look after her family. In 1995, Amrita and Saif were blessed with their firstborn, Sara Ali Khan and in 2001, a son, Ibrahim Ali Khan. Unfortunately, Amrita and Saif got divorced in 2004 due to reasons best known to them. Following this, Sara and Ibrahim started living with Amrita since then.
For the unversed, it was in 2002, when Amrita Singh made a comeback on the silver screens with the film, 23rd March 1931: Shaheed. Following this, she was seen in a number of movies, including Shootout at Lokhandwala, Kajraare, Aurangzeb, 2 States, and many others. She was last seen in the movie, Heropanti 2, released in 2022. Now, we stumbled upon a throwback interview with Zoom TV, wherein Amrita opened up about why she returned to films after her divorce from Saif Ali Khan.

Amrita Singh stated that she didn't want her children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan to be affected. Thus, she had to resume work for her children post divorce from Saif Ali Khan. Moreover, mentioning that she had to overcome everything, she shared:
“I had to overcome everything I was going through very fast because I didn't want my children to grow up feeling that they were left with loser parents. That you know I just stayed at home and just mulled over my situation and you know just stayed fat and complacent and unhappy because of my circumstances. I didn't want my children to grow up learning to be you know defeated in life by a situation.”
Earlier, in an interview with ETimes during Ae Watan Mere Watan promotions, Sara Ali Khan opened up about her experience of growing up with her single mother, Amrita Singh. She said that at a very early age, she was more mature and understood that she had to be the one who initiated things in her life. She mentioned:
“I think living with a single mother has a huge role to play in it. At a very early age, I realised koi aapke liye kuchh karne nahi wala. It's not that I don't get help, I do. But ultimately, you are the mover and initiator of your life. If you are lucky, stars align and God wills, then it will happen. You can't be waiting around for things to happen, it doesn't work like that.”

In yet another interview with ETimes, Sara talked about how she often takes advice from her parents, Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan, in her career. Talking about the same, the actress stated that both her parents encouraged her to develop her own instincts while choosing films. Sara mentioned that her parents suggested to her that connecting to characters and the script is essential. Further, Sara revealed she treats every chance as her last chance and said:
"I discuss movies with my mother and father. The advice that both of them give me is that ultimately your heart has to connect to the character and the script. That’s a very personal selection process. So, they both always encourage me to develop my own instinct about what films I want to be a part of and which I don’t. When I step out to do a movie, I treat every chance like my last chance and give every film my hundred percent."
