"I think that you have to take a call on that. Very early on in your life as to what you're going to do. See, initially, you're worried about whether you're going to actually make it or not, whether you're going to be successful, whether your films are going to do well. So you wonder when you're going to be written about. And the first time you get your name mentioned in the gossip column, it's a moment of great excitement for you."

Amitabh on the dichotomy in a celeb's life

Afterwards, Karan asked him to reveal whatever he remembered from the first time his name was mentioned in the gossip column. To this, Amitabh recalled that it was for the first time when Devyani Chaubal mentioned him in the publication, Star & Style, and he had slept with that paper under his pillow. Revealing his excitement, Amitabh added, "Gosh my name is there." However, the actor couldn't remember what was actually written on the piece of article. However, Karan again asked Amitabh if the journalist wrote anything scandalous about him. To this, Amitabh talked about the dichotomy in the lives of the actors and added:

"Not really, it was pretty decent. But the fact is that you can see your name. Mentioned your name, and you find yourself in the columns, which is a great thing. And then gradually, as you go along those very columns start becoming a kind of a pain for you. So somewhere, there is a kind of dichotomy that happens in our lives."

Amitabh mentioned how a journalist gave a hurtful opinion piece about his career

The Silsila actor was then asked about the worst piece of criticism that he has ever read about himself. To this, Amitabh shared about the opinion piece Divyani Chaubal had written about him after watching one of his flopped films. And the way she had plated her thoughts, Amitabh felt that the columnist saw the end of his career. Amitabh continued:

"Oh yes, many many. I think Devyani Chaubal saw Muqaddar Ka Sikandar or either that or Laawaris, And I remember her saying, 'His sun is setting. This is the end of him.' And or words to that effect. But I feel that these words are, well, this was her opinion, she felt that this was the end of my career. But I think that contrary to that it can act as a great incentive for you to actually motivate."

Amitabh shared how a journalist had mentioned that his career is 'Finished'

Down the line, Amitabh mentioned having many more failures in his career and at that time, one more journalist named Pritish Nandy, mentioned that his career had 'finished'. While talking about this, Amitabh also hinted that this had hurt him. However, he didn't take this as a demotivating source. Instead, he shared how he took this as a challenge and said:

"Then, many years passed and then, there were some more failures after about 10 years. And I remember Pritish Nandy was in charge of the Illustrated Weekly at that time and he did a headline, front page article on me, which was titled 'Finished'. Yeah, it hurts at times. But what I did was I took that magazine, and I kept it on my desk. And every morning I used to watch it. And I said, 'I have to challenge this'. And in fact, during those times, I had Pritish over for a casual evening one day and he noticed that magazine. And he said, 'What are you doing with this magazine?' I said, 'This is my inspiration to disprove you someday."
