Amitabh Bachchan is the undisputed king of Bollywood, and nobody has ever matched his level of stardom. The superstar married Jaya Bhaduri when the latter was at the peak of her career. Amitabh and Jaya became a rage back then, and their families were also impacted by their popularity. However, Big B was also famous for his alleged affair with Rekha, but he never admitted to dating her.
On March 5, 1989, Jaya Bachchan's father, Taroon Kumar Bhaduri, who was The Statesman‘s correspondent in Bhopal for many years, wrote an article in the Illustrated Weekly of India. He shared how Satyajit Ray once told him that he would be known as 'Jaya Bachchan's father' rather than his own identity of being a journalist. He added that things worsened when Jaya tied the knot with Amitabh Bachchan and said:
"When Jaya joined films way back in 1970, Satyajit Ray told me, 'For a year or so, at least in Bengal, she will be known as your daughter. Thereafter, you will be known as her father.' True enough, this came to pass. And as if this was not enough, suddenly, out of the blue, I had to one day become the father-in-law of one who has been variously described as a ‘superstar’. Their popularity has rubbed off on my wife and me."
Talking about how things changed overnight after Jaya and Amitabh's marriage, the veteran journalist recalled that people started being over-friendly with them. Taroon added that he and his wife were invited to random cocktail parties just because they were related to Jaya and Amitabh, and people would ask them for autographs. In his words:
"Almost overnight, we found that our friends were overfriendly towards us. Strangers wanted to know us socially. We started getting cocktail invitations from wholly unknown people. 'There go Jaya’s parents and Amitabh’s in-laws,' curious passers-by would whisper. Wherever I went, I was besieged with requests for photographs of Jaya and Amitabh—not only from teenage fans but grandmothers too."
Taroon mentioned that he and his wife were asked to sign autograph books because of their connection to Jaya and Amitabh. Once, his wife was invited as the chief guest of a public reception at a hill station in Uttar Pradesh and made a patron of a sports organisation. On the other hand, he was invited to inaugurate a judo club, and later, a women’s organization invited him to speak on Amitabh’s ‘affairs’, which unnerved him. He said:
"I, in my turn, was invited to one town to open a new judo club—because Amitabh is supposed to be the angry young man who fights his way out with judo, karate and what have you. But the ultimate was reached in another town where a women’s organisation invited me to speak on Amitabh’s ‘affairs’. This unnerved me no end, and I told them I was too busy mismanaging my own affairs to bother about someone else’s."
Taroon Bhaduri also discussed the real side of Amitabh Bachchan and revealed that whenever the actor met someone who knew his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, he would touch his feet. He added that his son-in-law is a recluse and a very sensitive person who gets easily hurt. However, the media maligned the superstar's image and spread hatred about him. Elaborating on it, the veteran journalist said:

"Amit, in real life, is an introvert. He talks only when it is necessary. He reads his Gita every morning and he plays his sitar. At times, he can be like a child. But in spite of all this, he is perhaps the most misunderstood and maligned man in the film industry. So much venom and calumny have been poured on him by a section of the Bombay film press that any other man in his place would have cracked up. He takes it all in his stride. But he also knows how to hit back, and this he does occasionally."
