Amitabh Bachchan Ended Drought In Jaisalmer, 50K People Wanted To Touch His Feet, Revealed Apoorva

Apoorva Lakhia recently revealed how people in Jaisalmer thought Amitabh Bachchan was God as his arrival brought rain after a long dry spell.

Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most respected and loved actors in Indian cinema. However, to the people of Jaisalmer, the actor proved to be nothing less than God. In a recent interview with Friday Talkies, the filmmaker, Apoorva Lakhia, shared an anecdote from the shoot of his film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, which starred Abhishek Bachchan. 

Apoorva Lakhia reveals how Amitabh Bachchan's arrival ended a long dry spell in Jaisalmer

Apoorva Lakhia was shooting with Abhishek Bachchan in Jaisalmer for the film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost when Amitabh Bachchan visited the set with his family. The director recalled when they were shooting for the film, Jaisalmer was going through a long period of drought. Apoorva added that the team was shooting in the desert when they noticed a fleet of luxury cars. He was quoted saying:

"We were shooting Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost in Jaisalmer, and there was a drought there at the time. Amitabh Bachchan was coming there for New Year's, with Jaya ji, Shweta, Amar Singh, and we were shooting somewhere in the desert. You could tell from afar that his fleet was coming because no one in Jaisalmer had seen that many luxury cars at once."

In the same conversation, Apoorva further added how, upon Amitabh Bachchan's arrival, dark clouds started forming in the skies of Jaisalmer. He shared that the scene was just like it was portrayed in Lagaan's iconic song, Kaale Megha. He revealed as soon as Amitabh got out of his car and hugged his son, Abhishek Bachchan, there was a hailstorm. He stated:

"You won't believe it; I swear on my mother’s life, he came on to the set. You know how it happens in Lagaan with 'Kaale Megha'. Clouds started forming. He got out of the car, hugged Abhishek, and there was a hailstorm."

Apoorva Lakhia reveals how 50,000 people showed up to touch Amitabh Bachchan's feet

In the same conversation with Friday Talkies, Apoorva Lakhia revealed while the city had been facing a long dry spell, Amitabh Bachchan's arrival brought so much rain that the director's entire village was ruined. He added that after the storm stopped, over 50,000 people would show up outside Amitabh's hotel and wait for him. He recalled that people thought that Amitabh was a God, so they came to touch his feet. He was quoted saying:

"It started raining so much that rivers were flooded, and our entire village got ruined. After that, outside the hotel, there used to be 40,000-50,000 people wanting to touch his feet because they thought god had come. There was no water in Jaisalmer, and the rivers were flooded. I saw that with my own eyes."

Concluding the conversation, Apoorva Lakhia acknowledged that the incident was just a coincidence. However, he still finds it fascinating. He commended Amitabh Bachchan's aura for making it seem so believable and magical and said, "The aura just keeps increasing." Apoorva later worked with Amitabh in the 2005 film Ek Ajnabee.
