Amitabh's 'Agneepath' Saved KJo From Mortgage After Mom, Hiroo Had A Heart Attack, Reveals Nikkhil

Yash Johar and Karan Johar's hard work and resilience have made Dharma Productions one of the biggest production houses in Bollywood. However, that was not always the case. Yash Johar had put his blood and sweat into making his company into a profitable business venture.

Nikkhil Advani reveals about Karan Johar's difficult time

Dharma Production has become one of the biggest production houses today. However, before Karan started making movies for the company in the late 1990s, Dharma went through a really rough patch. In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Nikkhil Advani shared that there was a time when Karan Johar's house was mortgaged, and his mother, Hiroo, had a heart attack. He revealed that things were so bad that Karan even had to sell some of his camera and light equipment to get some funds. He was quoted saying:

"I remember Karan (Johar) telling me that there was a time when he sold his lights and camera. He had mortgaged his house. Hiroo Aunty had a heart attack. I think Amit ji met Yash uncle and asked him, 'How is Hiroo?'. They were both very close as they were school friends. Yash uncle told him, 'She is in Breach Candy hospital.'  Amitji left his shoot and rushed to see her in the hospital."

Amitabh Bachchan's Agneepath saved Karan Johar in these difficult times

In the same conversation, Nikkhil Advani revealed that it was after a meeting with Amitabh Bachchan that the film, Agneepath came into existence. Nikkhil shared that Yash Johar told him after the meeting that there is a film for which Amitabh had given the dates. Nikkhil added that Amitabh knew that the Johars were going through a tough time, so he gave Yash the dates to make the film. However, despite their best efforts, Agneepath failed to score at the box office. He stated:

"They were there at the hospital. Amit ji came out, met Yash uncle and told him, 'There is a boy, who I am making a film with. Romesh is producing it, but you call him up and tell him that Amit has given dates for your film. There is a subject on Scarface, we should do it together.' That’s how Agneepath came about. That's how the film was made. He simply said, 'I know what you going through, I know what the condition is right now, I am giving you the dates, let’s start.'"

In the same conversation, Nikkhil Advani spoke about his association with Dharma Productions. He stated that he doesn't see his time with Dharma as just three movies because those three movies became the foundation of the Dharma Production that Karan Johar set up. For the unversed, Nikkhil worked with Yash and Karan Johar on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho. He was quoted saying:

"I don’t see my time at Dharma as three films, I see it as I was there at Dharma when the foundation was being made. Both Yash uncle and Karan were trying to set up the production house. Those three films are the foundation of Karan’s Dharma Productions."
