Kishore Kumar was a genius when it came to music. The legendary singer sang iconic songs like Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein, Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi and O Mere Dil Ke Chain, which are remembered by fans to date, and so are stories related to his personal life. Fondly known as 'Kishore da', the singer's personal life was anything but simple as the man who sang timeless songs of love dealt with emotional turmoil himself. One of the most popularized chapters from his personal life was his marriage with Madhubala. Unlike him, his son, Amit, had a rather different bond with the actress, which had mutual respect. In a new interview, Amit Kumar shared some insights from the same.
Amit Kumar recently sat down for an interview with Vickey Lalwani. During the conversation, he admitted that he never held any grudge against his father for separating from his mom, Ruma Guha. Amit mentioned that he was merely six and witnessed their fights. So, he knew that they had issues between them. But, despite that he was fortunate because they provided him with equal love and care. Later, when Kishore Kumar married Madhubala, he often stayed with them and shared cordial bond with her. Recalling the same, he said:
"Yeh, I never grumbled about that. Main mummy bolta tha. She (Madhubala) used to come here also once or twice."
Amit shared that he sometimes used to sleep with his father as a kid and had a habit of kicking in sleep like many kids do. So, once, when he was sleeping with his dad and Madhubala, he accidentally kicked her in his sleep. Later, she complained about the same to his father. Amit also added that his father took care of Madhubala when she fell ill, and they were an iconic pair. In his words:
“Toh yeh mujhe yaad hai mein idhar soya tha, beech mein Madhu ji aur udhaar papa aur main pair maar raha hu mujhe maloom nahi. Baad mein mein woh bol rahe thi, main sunn raha tha. Kehti hai aapka ladka bohot laat marta hai. He took her to London, they were a fantastic pair, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Half Ticket and pehle to Dhake Ki Malmal. What a pair it was, superhit."
In a previous interview with ETimes, Amit Kumar revealed that he never questioned his father about his choice to marry four times. Instead, he respected his father's decision because he knew that somewhere, he was a simple-hearted man who desired to have a family. In Amit's words:
"I never asked him. It was his personal life. He always wanted a family. He was a family man. It was just that he was misunderstood."
Kishore Kumar's personal life was as dramatic as his music. He tied the knot four times, with each relationship having a different story. He first tied the knot with Ruma Guha Thakurta in 1950, and they had a son, Amit. But, they separated after eight years due to their different approaches to life. He later married Madhubala in 1960 and together, they worked in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Half Ticket, and more. However, the marriage ended with her demise in 1969.
