Thousands of passionate actors and actresses struggle for years to secure their big break in the glittering and dazzling film industry. However, behind this sparkle, there is a huge problem that persists in the industry, which preys on these newcomers and strugglers. And that is casting couch. Many outsiders are subjected to exploitation as a result of the casting couch. However, most nepo kids are safe from this as their parents are big names in the industry. But Johny Lever's daughter revealed that she had a very different experience with a fake director who had asked her to strip on a video call.
Jamie Lever had heard a lot about the casting couch in the industry. However, as the daughter of veteran comedian, Johny Lever, Jamie had felt secure from such situations and thought it was a 'blessing', she revealed in an interview with Zoom. However, initially, she didn't have a manager, so she would reach out to casting agents herself and circulate her contact details. As a result, Jamie once received a call from an unknown person posing as an international film director who asked her for an audition. To get a chance to work on an international film, Jamie said yes.
The audition was done through a video call and the director said that since he is travelling its not possible for him to switch on the camera. Then he said to Jamie that there is no script however she was auditioning for a bold character. The director then asked her to imagine a scene where she has to seduce a 50-year-old guy and act out the scene while stripping. Recounting this incident, Jamie said:
“They said that you imagine there is a 50-year-old man in front of you and you are trying to woo this man, and eventually, there is an intimate scene. I said, ‘I am not very comfortable with this. When there is a script I will follow that’. They said, ‘There is no script, it is improvised so if you want to strip or if you want to say something or if you want to do something else, feel free to do that."
Jamie Lever stated that she told the director that she wasn't comfortable with enacting the scene on the video call, and she was also not informed about anything about stripping beforehand. The actress then exited the video call. After cutting the call, Jamie realised how she could have been scammed. The fraud director could record the video and use it to blackmail her. Jamie was quoted as saying:
“That’s when I realised that this could be such a big scam because had I done anything innocently, they could have made a video out of it, they could have harassed me and a lot of other things could have happened."
What are your thoughts on Jamie Lever almost getting scammed by a fake director?
