Ameesha Patel's portrayal of 'Sakina' in the Gadar franchise holds a special place in the hearts of fans to this day. Her performance as a Muslim girl who falls hopelessly in love with a Sikh man during the partition, leading to the pair having to overcome several challenges to unite, continues to wow audiences to this day. However, Ameesha recently made headlines for being at odds with Gadar 2 director, Anil Sharma. The actress and director seemingly share vastly different opinions on the kind of roles the former should be doing.
Actress, Ameesha Patel recently made headlines for taking a dig at Gadar 2 director, Anil Sharma's remark about her being resistant to playing a mother-in-law on screen in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. The Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai star took to her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to make it abundantly clear to the director that she had no intentions of playing such a role regardless of the paycheck offered. Firmly asserting that she had every right to choose the kind of roles she portrayed on screen, Ameesha penned:
“Dear @Anilsharma_dir dear Anilji. This is only a film and not a reality of some family, so on screen, I do have a say as to what I want to do and not do respect you loads, but I will never play a mother-in-law for Gadar or any film, even if paid 100 crores."
Ameesha Patel also addressed director, Anil Sharma in a few other tweets referencing his interview with Siddharth Kannan. In her other tweets, the actress penned that Anil seemed to be mistaken about the climax and story he had shot himself. She clarified that 'Sakina' would always be a wife to her 'lovely Tara' and only a mother to 'Jeetey' just like she was 23 years ago in the original Gadar. Ameesha further stated that the film and franchise would always be about three of them to her.
In yet another tweet, Ameesha shared her belief that fans wouldn't want to see their 'Tara' and 'Sakina' as in-laws. Also, the actress expressed her respect for the director even as she disagreed with his opinions. Wishing Anil the best of luck for his upcoming venture, Vanvaas starring Nana Patekar, Simrat Kaur, and Utkarsh Sharma, Ameesha wrote:
"Also @Anilsharma_dir fans don't want to see Tara Sakina as father in laws and mother in laws. They love their Tara being a hero and a super hero only and so do I, and wishing you the best for vanvaas today. May u always shine. It's a important day for you and I pray best for you."
Ameesha Patel's back-to-back tweets lashing out at director, Anil Sharma were caused by the comments the latter had made during an interview with Siddharth Kannan. He stated that the actress was miffed because she didn't get as much screen time in the sequel as in the first movie. Anil further said that Ameesha couldn't accept the natural age and progression of her character. According to him, if 'Sakina' was 'Jeetey's' mother, she would eventually have to be his wife's mother-in-law.

Anil then went on to say that he understood that Ameesha worked hard to maintain herself. However, at the end of the day, she was an actress. The director also drew comparisons to Nargis, who had played a mother in the film, Mother India, at age 26. Ameesha also mentioned her differences with the director in another interview, stating that she wouldn't speak to him on set. Nevertheless, the actress stated that she still respected him and the problems hadn't impacted their working relationship.
